Here we are all excited and wind swept before our 3k pier to pier swim this morning in Herne Bay. This picture is deceiving and looks calm. It was pretty choppy at times, but we enjoyed it.
I was able to put into practice all the things I work on with my open water swimmers. Particularly focusing on keeping my breathing relaxed, which helped calm my nerves and keep my stroke relaxed. I noticed my stroke slipping as I was battling the waves swimming back against the current, and readjusting my hand entry helped keep my pull strong to get through the rough bits.

June highlights.
Lots of my swimmers made great progress last month. From gaining confidence so they enjoy being underwater, confidently swimming unaided for the first time, swimming further distance than ever, improving their technique and regaining an enjoyment for swimming.
The plan with my new GoPro at the beginning of the year was to make a highlights video each month, but itβs half way through the year and only posted 2 so far. So here is a catch up of March, April and May together some of my swimmers.

This afternoon a lovely lady came all the way from Reading for her first aquaphobia lesson. This was a huge step for her to work towards overcoming her fear of the water. She was so nervous at the start and told me she almost turned around half way in the journey as panic set in. She did so well and left with a huge smile on her face, feeling so pleased
of her accomplishments, saying she made so much more progress than she expected.
Aquaphobia lessons focus on learning to relax, desensitising fears to feel safe and enjoy being in the water. Once these fears are reduced it will become easier to develop the technical side of learning to swim.

This Kent senior champion came for a Stroke Check In on Saturday. We tweaked a few elements of his stroke, which heβll continue to work on in training. He then won his event on Sunday at the Kent champs, with a big PB. Heβs coming back in a few weeks to keep fine tuning his stroke.
