This afternoon saw the battle of the sexes in our annual Ladies vs Gents match, played over five rinks of triples.
Suzie Timcke, Lesley Sargood and Helen Philpott pulled away against John Rawlinson, Peter Pask and Chris Timcke to go ahead 17-13 after 12 ends, but despite going into the last end 2 shots up, they dropped a 2 to finish all level at 20-20.
Carole Ash, with new bowlers Marie Brewer and Louise Broadbridge, was 10-5 up after 10 ends but they went in to the last end 14-14. A single shot for Tony Broom, Peter Sutton and David Underdown saw the men victorious 15-14.
Ladies' Captain, Bobby Bruce and her team gave it a good go and finished only two shots behind Geoff Cox's team 16-18.
Eric Dow lead his team to a 22-14 win over Lynn Stothard's ladies.
Paul Callow, Malcolm Jones and Keith Watson proved tough opponents for Pam Clack, Cherry Richardson and Emer Morris, taking a convincing 26-11 win.
It doesn't take much working out to see that the men won overall.
It was a very enjoyable afternoon with cakes provided by Diane Cox and Ann Thurogood - a big thank you to them.
Finally, it was good to see new bowlers getting involved and playing well.
Thanks, as always, to our lovely spectators.

Our dedicated greenkeeper is out on a Friday afternoon repairing divots.
Please consider putting down the wet mats when necessary, to prevent damage to the green.
We have a superb playing surface and must protect it.

On Thursday evening Paul Callow, Dave Torrice and Andy Squire made another long trip to Loughton in the County Triples.
Luckily the rain stopped and although the green was heavy, as expected, they won comfortably 25-11 after 14 ends.
They will play at home next Thursday v a triple from Great Baddow.
As always, supporters are very much appreciated.

Andy Squire played at SWF, incredibly for the first time ever 😲 Making a good decision to play with his indoor woods, he won 21-8 v Glen Williams in the National Senior Singles.
Good luck to Andy in the next round.

C&D Match Report Maldon C v Chelmsford B.

We welcomed Chelmsford to a very wet Maldon and there was some doubt that we would get on the green.
A break in the deluge was taken advantage of and we began.
Once again the A and B team had requested some of our C team regulars but the late substitutes stepped up to play their part.
On rink 4 Dave B, Richard B, Dave By, and Peter W were always in control after the fourth end when they picked up 5. They went on to win the rink 17-10.
On rink 5 Tony B, Phil A, Derek B and Malcolm J had a rather more difficult evening. Even when holding good shots the Chelmsford skip turned the tables. Derek may have sworn under his breath once or twice!
Finding it difficult to claim the mat will obviously hinder efforts to get back on terms with the opponent and the final score on rink 5 was 10-24.
Rink 6 saw Simon A, Graham S, Brian C and Frank W shoot out of the blocks and take a commanding lead. By the 10th end they were 10-3 up, looking comfortable and all playing well. They then didn’t score for the next 8 ends with all 4 of them somehow falling off a cliff form wise!
They managed to lose it 10-20. The aggregate score of 37-54 meant that we went down 2-6. On a positive, we didn’t get wet!
