👉 This clean-looking 2009 Bavaria 40 Cruiser is up for €99,000 from a private seller in Bulgaria (lying Volos, Greece). Bizarrely, this ad has no descriptive text, but Santana looks in nice condition in the photos. This J&J design was introduced in 2000, and was given some minor updates by the time this example was built. Those include added port lights in the hull, restyled coachroof windows, and the electrification of the bathing platform.
✨ Santana is the 3-cabin, standard draft version drawing 2.05m, and sets a healthy amount of sail via a tall fractional rig. She has a spacious, teak-trimmed cockpit, with twin wheels providing a clear walk-through from the bathing platform to the companionway. Equipment includes a bow thruster, electric windlass, life raft, heating, hot water, fridge, inverter, solar and shore power.
💎 Below, there’s a huge owner’s cabin forward with an en suite head and shower. Her saloon has a dinette to starboard, and a linear galley to port. Moving aft, there’s a large head to port with a separate shower stall, and a full-size, forward-facing nav station opposite. The 2 large aft cabins each have a wardrobe and a small seat for dressing.
⛵️ Power is from a 40hp Volvo Penta D2-40 diesel, mated to a saildrive. As there’s no maintenance info, anyone seriously interested would need to follow up on engine hours and engine and saildrive service history, and the age of her sails and standing rigging. We can see from the photos that she has modern Raymarine electronics. Assuming the big-ticket items check out, she looks like a great example, and would suit anyone looking for a spacious cruiser with room for friends and family to stay aboard.

👉 This very tidy 2005 Delphia 40 is up for €98,000 from a private seller in Faaborg, Denmark. Coralle is the 3-cabin, standard draft version of this Andre Skrzat design, with the shoal keel drawing 1.69m. As we know, Delphia were taken over by Groupe Beneteau, and clever, well built models like this are the reason they attracted the French giant's attention. The 40 has the partial deck saloon we see in the Jeanneau DS models, and is reported to have good sailing characteristics and build quality.
✨ Coralle had new Raymarine instruments, a 12” chartplotter, DSC VHF and a new Fusion sound system fitted in 2025. She had a new mainsail, genoa and code zero in 2022, which weren’t used until 2024. Other equipment includes a bow thruster, electric windlass, AIS, heating, hot water (including deck shower) shore power and dinghy davits.
💎 Below, she has a double cabin forward with a large en suite head and shower compartment and a seating / dressing area. Her saloon has dinette seating, a forward-facing nav station to port, and a linear galley and second head and shower to starboard. There are two more good-sized double cabins aft.
⛵️ Power is from a clean-looking 40hp Yanmar 3JH4E, mated to a saildrive where the gaiter has recently been replaced. The ad lists plenty of recent engine maintenance, including cleaning the diesel tank, and she has a new 3-blade folding propellor. The age of her standing rigging isn’t mentioned, so I would follow up on that. Otherwise, Coralle looks well priced considering her recent maintenance and upgrades, and would suit anyone looking for a quality, comfortable fast cruiser.

👉 This tidy 1995 Grand Soleil 38 is up for €83,500 from Barth Yachts in Flensburg, Germany. Cantiere del Pardo, the Italian builders of the Grand Soleil range, have employed many designers over the years, but Groupe Finot designed the very first model, the legendary 34 launched in 1972. They made a return in 1990 when Pascal Conq (by then one half of Finot/Conq) penned this stylish masthead-rigged cruiser-racer, with a 2m bulb keel and a nice balance of sail area and ballast ratio.
✨ This example had her teak deck renovated in 2021, her cockpit teak was renovated in 2022, and she had new upper and lower shrouds in 2020. New Raymarine electronics were fitted from 2023 to 2024, including two chartplotters, new instruments and AIS. She had a new Sidepower bow thruster in 2023, and in 2024, she had new batteries, Eberspacher heating, LED interior lighting, cooker, plumbing and a new W/C with holding tank.
💎 Below, this two-cabin version makes good use of interior space. There’s a large double cabin forward with an en-suite head. In the saloon, there’s a dinette to port, and a settee opposite to starboard with a full-size, forward-facing nav station behind, and a decent L-shaped galley to port. Aft, there’s a head and shower on the starboard side, in front of a good-size cockpit locker, and there’s another generous double cabin to starboard.
⛵️ Power is from a 40hp Volvo Penta MD2040, mated to a saildrive. The engine isn’t pictured and hours aren’t quoted, so anyone serious about buying this boat should follow up on that and the service history of the saildrive. Sails are from 2016 and are described as being in good condition, with the spinnaker being unused. All in all, if you like the “Italian Swan” styling and craftsmanship, this looks like an excellent example of a classic Grand Soleil, and she’d suit anyone looking to cruise in comfort and perhaps take part in the occasional not-too-serious race.

👉 This tidy 2005 Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 45 is up for €120,000 from a private seller in the UK (lying P**a, Croatia). This sharp-looking Philippe Briand design is a development of the previous 45.1 and 45.2, with the back end redesigned to provide more beam aft, resulting in space in the twin aft cabins. The 45 is fast and comfortable passage-maker with good sailing manners, a large cockpit with twin wheels, and an uncluttered deck layout. Headstart has had the same owner since 2010, has been professionally maintained, and looks in nice condition.
✨ Her teak deck and cockpit were replaced between 2019 and 2022 and she’s fitted with an electric winch for the main halyard, and comes with Hydranet sails by One Sails. Other equipment includes a bow thruster, electric windlass, autopilot, radar, EPIRB, hot water, fridge, freezer and shore power.
💎 Below deck, this is the 3 cabin version, featuring a large double cabin forward, with en-suite head and shower. The saloon area has a dinette arrangement with a linear galley to port, and another head / shower compartment immediately aft. Opposite, there’s a large nav station tucked under the deck, and behind, two generous double aft cabins.
⛵️ Power is from a 75hp Yanmar 4JH3 turbo diesel with 2,137 hours recorded, mated to a shaft drive with a feathering prop. Her standing rigging was last replaced in 2015, and strictly speaking, should be done next year. Electronics are a mix of Raymarine generations, and the chartplotter in particular could do with an upgrade. Otherwise, Headstart looks in nice condition, seems well priced, and would suit anyone looking for a comfortable fast cruiser with good sailing performance and long passage-making potential.

👉 This very tidy 2002 Beneteau Oceanis 393 Clipper is up for €93,500 from a private seller in Dragør, Denmark. This Berret / Racoupeau design was one of Beneteau’s top selling models in period, combining a roomy interior with rugged good looks, a tough masthead rig, and decent performance under sail. Sofie is the three-cabin, shoal-draft version, drawing a very useful 1.55m, and with an in-mast furling main and furling genoa.
✨ Recent upgrades include a new sprayhood and cockpit tent this season, a new gearbox in 2025, a new winter cover in 2024, a new B&G autopilot in 2023 and new Jabsco electric toilets in 2022. Other equipment includes a bow thruster, electric windlass, autopilot, radar, heating, hot water (inc. deck shower), fridge, solar power, shore power and dinghy davits.
💎 Below, she has a cleverly designed owner’s cabin up forward which uses the forepeak for a private head & shower compartment. In the saloon, a linear galley runs along the starboard side, with dinette seating to port. Immediately aft to port there’s a decent-sized nav station, with another head and shower opposite. There are two good-sized double aft cabins in the rear.
⛵️ Power is from a 50hp Volvo Penta MD22 mated to a shaft drive. Engine hours are not mentioned and should be followed up on. The age of her sails and standing rigging are also not stated. Her electronics are relatively recent B&G. All in all, Sofie looks in excellent basic condition, and would suit anyone looking for a spacious fast cruiser with room for friends or family to stay aboard.

👉 This well-maintained 2000 Bavaria 37 Cruiser is up for €68,500 from Navark Yachtbrokers in Helsingborg, Sweden (lying Västervik). This example has seen lots of recent spending on big-ticket items, and looks in nice condition. She’s the shoal draft version of this J&J design, drawing a useful 1.5m. The 37 sets a healthy amount of sail via an 11/12 fractional rig, and has wheel steering and a single rudder.
✨ Additions and upgrades since 2023 include new cruising laminate sails, a new cockpit tent, running rigging, lithium batteries, solar power system, Victron charging system, Raymarine EV-200 autopilot, Raymarine instruments and Garmin chartplotter. Other equipment includes electric windlass, AIS, heating, hot water, fridge, shore power and an inflatable tender and outboard.
💎 This era of Bavaria featured nice hardwood interiors, and this example looks in good condition below. She has 2 identical double cabins aft, each with a wardrobe and dressing seat. A single head and shower is located to port of the companionway, with a forward facing nav station opposite. In the saloon, there’s a dinette to starboard, and a generous linear galley to port. The forecabin has a large double v-berth, storage and plenty of space to dress.
⛵️ Power is from a 29hp Volvo MD2030 diesel with approximately 3,500 hours recorded, mated to a saildrive. The ad lists recent engine maintenance but doesn’t list the age of the saildrive gaiter. The age of her standing rigging is also not stated, and should be followed up on. Otherwise, she looks well priced considering the amount of recent equipment, and would suit anyone looking for a comfortable cruiser with 3 cabins and the advantage of shallow draft.

👉 This upgraded 1988 Aphrodite 42 is up for €89,900 from Grabau International in Barcelona, Spain. The Aphrodite range was designed by Carl Beyer and built by Swedish yard Rex Marin, which later became part of Najad Yachts. The 42 is a centre cockpit cruiser ideally suited to long-distance passage-making. She features a hard dodger (glass windscreen) like Najad and Hallberg-Rassy models, and like those brands, a beautiful hardwood interior.
✨ Maritimi is being sold by her third owner, an experienced bluewater sailor who purchased the boat from a German owner who carried out a €125,000 professional refit between 2017 and 2020, preparing for a circumnavigation that never happened. She’s had her teak deck removed (good), and the original balsa deck core replaced with modern foam – a very good thing.
💎 The previous boat we saw was a ketch, whereas Maritimi is a sloop, meaning she can carry more sail area, and there’s room for a substantial rear gantry for solar panels, a wind generator and dinghy davits. Inside, she features two large double cabins, one forward and one aft, each with its own heads and shower compartment. The main saloon area has a plush dining / seating area, a large and practical galley and a full-size, forward-facing nav station.
⛵️There are too many upgrades to list, but highlights include a modern B&G instrument package, recent sails and Seldén genoa furler, a total rewire, and new upholstery, seacocks, standing rigging, hull ports and hatches. Power is from a Volvo Penta MD31A mated to a shaft drive, which was overhauled during the second owner’s refit, although it could still do with a cosmetic tidy up in places. Otherwise there has been serious work done, and I think Maritimi represents excellent value for anyone looking for a tough and comfortable distance cruiser.

👉 This very tidy 2000 Najad 331 is up for €89,500 from Blue Ocean in Helsinki, Finland. This quality Scandinavian compact cruiser was designed by Najad’s Eric Segerlind in collaboration with respected German firm Judel/Vrolijk. She hits a sweet spot of handling, sailing performance and offshore ability in a size that’s easily managed by a couple or solo sailor. Her fractional rig sets enough sail to be useful in lighter airs, and her handling is reported to be very well balanced under sail and power.
✨ Sanniina IV is the standard-draft version, drawing 1.7m, with wheel steering, teak decks, a slab-reefed main and roller furling headsail. She looks in excellent condition, and the ad details regular maintenance going back years. Equipment includes autopilot, heating, hot water, fridge, shore power and Eberspacher heating.
💎 Below deck, her mahogany interior is beautifully made, and features lots of clever storage. She has a good-sized double cabin aft, and another forward. Her head is aft on the starboard side with a full-size nav station in front. Opposite, there’s a generous L-shaped galley with twin sinks, and moving forward, twin settees and a drop-leaf table.
⛵️ Power is from a Volvo Penta MD2030S with just 1,000 hours recorded, mated to a saildrive. The saildrive gaiter was last changed in 2017. Sails are original and their condition should be assessed. Age of standing rigging is not mentioned and should be followed up on. Electronics are original Raymarine. If everything works I’d update the chartplotter as a priority. Otherwise, Sanniina IV looks in great original condition, and would suit anyone looking for a high-quality compact cruiser with good sailing qualities.

I was delighted to interview Ollie Boyes of Ollie Boyes for my latest article for Practical Boat Owner magazine. Ollie bought ‘Elise’ a Copeland Harrier 20 trailer sailer for £1,400, and has since crossed the North Sea in her multiple times 🤘. He’s worked hard to equip Elise for distance sailing, but he also sails her with his family and in club races at Southwold Sailing Club - proving how versatile a small yacht can be. Ollie is also on YouTube and Facebook. Search “boated out” on those channels to follow there too. 🙂

👉 This beautiful 1982 Hallberg-Rassy 352 is up for €76,899 from Navark Yachtbrokers in Helsingborg, Sweden. Sir Francis II has had the same owner for the past 20 years, and has been stored indoors in a heated shed each winter. Her teak deck was replaced in 2005, and still looks in nice condition.
✨ The 352 was Hallberg-Rassy’s second most successful model ever, with over 800 built between 1978 and 1991. You often see them in very good condition, and their used prices are stronger than most older boats of this size. Seakindliness, high directional stability, a tough rig, a well-protected cockpit, and a beautifully crafted yet practical interior all contribute to the 352’s cult status.
💎 Inside, she has a double cabin in the forepeak, with a single head situated immediately behind. Her saloon has a comfortable twin settee layout with a central drop-leaf table. Moving aft, she has a practical L-shaped galley to starboard, and a nav station to port. There’s a walk-through passage to the aft cabin, which has single berths on either side.
⛵️ Sir Francis II is powered by her original Volvo Penta MD21B, mated to a shaft drive, and with 3,600 hours recorded. The age of her standing rigging isn’t mentioned and should be followed up on. Sails are over 10 years old. They look okay in the photos but realistically she’ll need a new suit soon. Electronics are a mix of generations. It looks like everything works, and she does have a modern Raymarine EV200 autopilot. The chartplotter looks a bit long in the tooth, so I’d replace that as a priority. Otherwise, she looks in lovely basic condition, and would suit anyone looking for a tough and seaworthy classic cruiser.
