It was so good to see this spotlight on the news regarding SEND in the central region. From our experience, the numbers will be higher than shown due to schools being named on EHCPs that can’t meet need. Being a parent of a SEND person is a constant fight that isn’t seen until you’re in it yourself. More provision is desperately needed as waitlists continue to grow. The knock on effect of a child not being able to access education is huge and entirely misunderstood.
The question asked on the spotlight is “Are our children being failed?” The answer is simple: yes.

What do you do when a school doesn’t want your child? When the school you want to name in your child’s EHC plan not only says they can’t meet the child’s needs but seems dismissive of the very idea, and of your child themselves?
