âThat sounds like management speak David and I know you hate thatâ
People say to me âRob youâre a trained fitness professional - why are you paying for a coach?â
What may surprise you is that most of the (good) coaches I know have their own coach. To me this shows a growth mindset and a willingness to constantly improve - which I think we can all agree is a positive.
If you think you would benefit from a bit of help with your overal health and fitness then please drop me a line.

Why bother training?
Itâs a question you have probably asked yourself a thousand times. The thing is if you donât have a good answer, eventually you probably wonât bother.
Many of the people I have coached come to me with aesthetic or specific body composition goals which is absolutely fine. Wanting to look a bit better in your birthday suit is a perfectly good reason to get in shape.
What I have learned over time however is that most people find it a bit of an anti-climax when they hit their desired weight and wonder âwhere next?!â.
That is why I think performance related goals have the upper hand.
Take my recent outing at Hyrox Manchester with for example.
We aimed to get round in under 1hr 30mins which we managed with a few minutes to spare.
Thats my score on the board and I now want to improve on that at Hyrox London in April which Iâm doing with my client
To Make that happen I will have some specific training goals as well as some nutrition goals as I want to drop some weight - 102kg arguably not the ideal weight for this event!
Now Iâm not saying that diet is less important than exercise. I just think that the more positive/healthier way to frame it is to have your primary goals as performance related and then support those with your diet.
Also training with your mates and doing events like Hyrox is about 1000 x more fun than starving yourself for a photo shoot.
If you what some help finding a goal for 2022 then please get in touch.

Damage limitation.â
â
Let's stop the wheels coming off completely.â
â
Sometimes a few simple steps can help make sure that we emerge the other side of the festivities in half decent shape.â
â
This is by no means an exhaustive list but if you manage to nail all 3 then it should definitely stand you in good stead for the start of 2022.â

â
I am such a huge advocate of building at least some strength training into your schedule, as it has such wide ranging benefits.â
â
For some of my clients it makes up their whole training routine. 2-4 sessions a week. â
â
For others (sportspeople/ those who love their cardio) it is once a week top supplement their running/HIIT/football training.â
â
The two 'Unlikely results' mentioned above are concerns I often hear from newcomers and predominantly from women. â
â
Ladies - I can't stress this enough - the rate at which you put on muscle is so depressingly slow (largely due to lack of testosterone) that bulking up is literally the last thing you should worry about.â
â
Get out there. Lift some weights. I promise you won't regret it.â

If you arenât tracking, youâre guessing.
Training is hard. Dragging your arse out of bed at 6.45am is hard. It gets a lot harder if you arenât sure if youâre getting any fitter.
Thatâs why all BUHFF members get the opportunity to take part in the Challenger! A scored workout that is repeated every 2 weeks to allow them to track their improvement through the 8 week block.
Give this one a try and let me know your score in the comments below.
See you soon.

âJeffrey Archerâ
Todayâs Challenger was long time friend of BUHFF who joined us to take on âJeffreyâ and also share his wisdom on balancing training, work and raising 2 kids!
Adam is an ex-professional rugby player turned Fitness Coach and entrepreneur. He currently weighs in at over 100kg so itâs safe to say these largely body weight workouts put him a bit of a disadvantage! That said he put some ridiculous scores on the board!
The Callenger! Is a chance for the members to test themselves against the the rest of our community but most importantly themselves. This is the second time they have completed Jeffrey in this training block. This allows them to compare their score with that from 6 weeks ago.
Feel free to give this one a go and let me know your scores in the comments below.
See you soon.
