Barre instructors unite 😂

One of the questions I get asked all the time is:
“What’s the difference between Pilates and Barre?”

And honestly… even as an instructor it’s getting harder to tell on social media. The line between the two is becoming more and more blurred.

But in simple terms - if your Pilates class looks like the slides above… there’s a good chance you’re actually doing Barre.

And this isn’t about competition.
Not Barre vs Pilates.
Not which workout is better.

They’re both truly amazing methods.

But it is about respecting the method.

Movement evolves and of course instructors have freedom and creativity in how they teach. But I’m noticing more and more people qualifying to teach “Pilates” based on what they see online… and what’s trending on socials isn’t always Pilates.

So if it’s not Pilates, that’s fine.

Call it sculpt.
Call it barrelates.
Call it Pilates inspired at a push.

Or sometimes… just call it what it is:
Barre.

The honest reality of running a business as a new mum and trying not to chase constant growth.

A realistic week in my life right now…

Most of my income comes passively through YBS subscribers, which I’m so so grateful for. A few years ago I added some in person group classes purely for my mental health (I LOVE them) and I also work with a few 1:1 clients.

Soon Rue will start nursery and I’ll get some of my week back. But right now I’m really trying to soak up this season and remember how lucky I am to be working part time and with him so much.

The tricky bit? Two truths can exist at the same time.

I feel incredibly grateful for this slower chapter…
but I’m also someone who finds it hard not to be in a season of growth.

If I’m honest, I’m starting to feel ready for a new chapter with YBS. But right now I know I just have to honour where I’m at.

Building a business while becoming a mum is a strange mix of ambition, gratitude and very much - letting go of control.

Any tips from other mums who juggle it all - so very welcome 😅

My 7-7 as a new mum juggling her small business.

Sometimes a whole day happens before 7am. Feeding, settling, starting again - all before most people’s day has even begun. These little squares make it look like a breeze, but the juggle is real and it’s tough.

I’m coming to the end of my breastfeeding journey, something I’m unbelievably proud of. It’s been a huge part of the juggle - emotionally, physically, mentally and I feel ready now. I think Rue is ready too.

I’m only working a few days a week currently but I feel more grateful than ever. Grateful to do what I love for a living, whilst trying to be the best mum I can be to our gorgeous boy.

Let me know if you’d like to see more content like this from a millennial new mum like meeeee. Dare I say I might even film a day in the life.

Some kind reminders for 2026 🤍

You don’t have to rebrand yourself this year. You don’t need a whole new routine, body, business or personality. You can just do more of what you love and less of what doesn’t serve you.

I’ve always loved the feeling of a new year. The fresh start, the intention and the general sense of possibility. But this year hits differently. I’m a new mum and honestly? I’m a bit done with setting myself up to fail with big, shiny goals that look great on paper but don’t fit real life.

Right now, my version of “growth” looks like enough sleep where possible, moving my body in ways that feel good, eating food that actually nourishes me and saying no without guilt. It looks like consistency over intensity.

So if your resolutions this year are smaller, slower, or simply about protecting your energy - you’re doing it right.

Here’s to achievable goals, gentle starts and a year that supports us back.

Sending so much love for the year ahead and I am actually making it a goal to stop eating so much garlic bread this year 😂❤️

Total Body Barre - What I’m teaching this week and why 💫

Curtsey Lunge with a Hinge - Testing Balance & control whilst strengthening the lower body.

Flat Back Chair in Parallel - Challenging yet simple - engages multiple muscle groups for a really satisfying burn/shake.

Forearm folder to extension - Fantastic for the glutes, hips and hamstrings whilst promoting full body awareness.

Round back modified - Improves spinal flexibility + a great advanced exercise to explore.

Speed skater - A simple and sweet cardio interval - perfect for warming up the body and exploring rotation in the trunk.
