Our first big social of the year is here, so save the date! ⚠️

On Wednesday the 25th of October at around 8pm, we start the social (training is still on that Wednesday from 6:00pm - 7:30pm) 👀

Everyone will drink a beverage the colour of the belts all the way from white to Dan grade (black). Make sure to wear a white t shirt and one that you don’t mind getting dirty, as will be tracking progress and writing on the t shirts 😁

We will start at one of our committee member’s house (address in the group chat) and then make our way to Squirrels to end the night.

Please fill out the form in our WhatsApp chat if you want to come along! Dm us if you don’t have access to the group that or have any questions.

Can’t wait to see you all there! 🥋

Finally, we have our social secretaries… could it be you?

Socials are an integral part of the committee as they bring people together through fun social activities. Some classic activities include Drink to Dan and curry night!

This role is up for grabs as a pair or standalone, so grab a friend if you like. You would be responsible for organizing socials, and preferably someone who like to socialize.

If you would like more details or are interested, dm us or email us at [email protected]

Introducing Matt, our treasurer!

“My name is Matt and I’m a fourth year biochemistry student. I have been doing Judo for two years and will be the club’s treasurer next year. I enjoy Judo for both the fun and fitness aspects, as well as the chance to meet and socialise with other students with similar interests.”

Next up, our social media secretary, Megan!

Hi, my name is Megan and I’m the social media secretary. I’ll be running the social media pages such as Instagram and Facebook. I’ll be keeping you all up to date with what’s going on in the judo world, as well as events and achievements of the club. Don’t hesitate to ask me a question by either messaging this Instagram page or on Facebook.

I’m a 4th year Psychology student, and I started judo at university 2 years ago. I’m currently an orange belt.

I look forwards to seeing what next year holds, and welcome anyone who is interesting in starting judo! :)

Introducing Nellie, our competition secretary!

“Hi, my name is Nellie and I am a 3rd year Law with Politics student. I've been doing judo since I was 7 and will be fulfilling the role of Competition Secretary this year.

The one thing I love about judo is all the amazing people you meet and the many life long friends you can make! I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to try something new whilst at university.”

Next up in our committee introductions is Ben, our vice captain!

“Hi, my name is Ben. I’ll be your vice captain for the upcoming year which means I’m responsible for much of the health, safety and welfare aspects of the club.

I’m a postgrad student doing a masters in global development and migration. I’ve done Judo since I was 7 years old. I really enjoy showing people new techniques and ways to improve ones they already know.”

Kickstarting our committee introductions is our captain, Alex!

“I'm Alex, the incoming Captain of the Judo Club. After doing 16 years of Judo, I can honestly say this is the best sport in the world. It will teach you discipline, honour, and respect whilst getting you in the best physical shape possible and teaching you useful real-world skills. It is no wonder it's the most popular grappling sport in the world. At the Univeristy of Manchester Judo Club, I would advise anyone to have a go. Even if you have no experience in sports or martial arts, you will find a new passion.”
