Weโre proud to be one of the official stops on the incredible March of the Day III challenge supporting the MND community, arriving at Swinton Lions on Wednesday 3rd June 2026 at approximately 1:05pm.
An unbelievable effort bringing together the worlds of football and rugby league, with over 50 former football and rugby league players already signed up โ including rugby league legend Barrie McDermott who is due to be part of the group visiting Swinton.
The six-day event will cover 340 miles and visit 45 grounds to raise awareness and funds for the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation and Leeds Hospitals Charity supporting the Rob Burrow Centre.
Letโs give them a huge Swinton welcome when they arrive at Heywood Road! ๐ค

On behalf of everyone at Swinton Lions RLFC, I would like to extend sincere condolences to the family and friends of John Kear.
Having had the pleasure of speaking to John on several occasions, you could not help but get drawn in by his personal warmth and genuine love of rugby league.
A fine playing career was followed by an outstanding coaching career at club and international level, and in particular who could ever forget his unfancied Sheffield Eagles team winning the Challenge Cup in 1998. He then of course went on to become one of the most knowledgable and articulate of broadcast summarisers.
Without doubt John was one of the good guys. He had a great sense of humour and a way of putting people at ease. There was always a word of encouragement or advice, and he always took genuine interest in what was happening at our club.
John will certainly be greatly missed by the whole of the rugby league family, including of course by all of us here at Swinton.

We can now confirm that our home Championship fixture versus Halifax Panthers will take place at Edge Hall Road Community Stadium, Orrell, WN5 8RG.
The date and kick-off time remain as previously scheduled - Sunday 7 June at 3pm.
As was reported earlier in the week, the change of venue has been proven necessary by the extensive pitch renovation work currently being carried out at Heywood Road.
Weโd like to thank Wigan Warriors RLFC, in particular Kris Radlinski, Andy Birch and Neill Russell, for their assistance in making the Edge Hall Road Stadium available to us at short notice.
Weโd also like to thank Halifax Panthers and the RFL for their cooperation in ensuring that the fixture gets played on the date as originally scheduled.
Weโll be back at Heywood Road for our home game versus Doncaster in July, but ahead of that we hope that our fans will support the Lions in good numbers at Edge Hall Road, which is a splendid 3,000 capacity ground with 800 covered seats.
Match tickets may be purchased as usual via our website, whilst cash and card payments may be made at the gate on match day. Unfortunately we are not able to offer a hospitality option for this particular fixture.
We will provide further travel information, including options for car parking, as soon as possible.
Thank you as always for your patience and understanding, as well as your loyal support.
