Somewhere along the way, fitness became a performance.
Social media tells us we need the matching outfit, the perfect physique, the meal prep containers, the expensive watch, the marathon medals and the endless discipline.
But none of that is why most people should exercise.
Exercise isn’t about proving anything.
It isn’t punishment for what you ate at the weekend.
It isn’t about becoming better than somebody else.
It’s about creating a little stability in a world that often feels chaotic.
It’s about having the energy to be present with your family.
Having a clearer mind at work.
Feeling stronger, more capable and more confident in yourself.
The people you love don’t care how much you deadlift.
They care which version of you comes home at the end of the day.
The one who’s stressed, exhausted and running on empty.
Or the one who’s taken an hour to look after themselves.
Stop comparing yourself to people on Instagram.
Most of us don’t want their life anyway.
Move your body.
Feel good.
Take care of yourself.
Then get on with living.
That’s what fitness is really for.
