U9s welcomed Marple to SGP!

Coaches had the following to say:

‘Another cracking Sunday morning for the U9s and another 2 wins under our belt - that’s 6 games undefeated!

Today we faced 2 strong, well organised Marple sides and credit where it is due, they really kept us on our toes!

It felt like our first well contested, competitive fixture and one where I thought our infancy would be apparent… it wasn’t, we smashed them! Does anyone know if that lad Marshall put into touch is back from the bus route yet? Some player you are Marshall! 🤯

Our parents player went to George, who had another solid performance - that second try 🤯 took the first pass from KO, straight to the try line with 5 Marple players hanging off him before casually placing the ball down 😎 - in the words of the Marple coach “he’s a coach’s dream him”

Our coaches player this week went to Olly Mull, our consistent all rounder who again had a blinder, tries, full lengthers and some hard tackling!

The squad continues to grow - a big shout out for those who made their rugby union debut - Tommy, Jake, and Freddie - all 3 of you were outstanding!

We go again next week, away at Burnage and following our growing reputation, it looks like we’ll be taking two teams!

LIVERPOOL COLLEGIATE 27 TYLDESLEY 19
Tyldesley travelled over to Liverpool on Saturday and came away empty handed despite a big effort from the boys.
Collegiate had all the ball for the first 25 minutes but were repelled time and time again by the blue wall of Tyldesley’s defensive line and were stunned when a wonderful move from inside our own half resulted in Danny releasing youngster Oli Hampson who powered over to score, James Mol adding the extras.
Like last week the game ebbed and flowed into the second half with the Bongs taking a 19-12 lead going into the last 10/15 minutes following scores from our Man of the Match Joe Bradford and Leon.
The relentless pressure finally told as Collegiate moved ahead with a converted try and penalty to seal the game. Against Fleetwood we could and should have won the game, this week however Collegiate were the better team and deserved the win with their wing forward a constant nuisance throughout.
A gallant performance from a Bongs side containing six teenagers, lots of positives but not quite good enough on the day.
Thanks to everyone who travelled to support the boys, next week sees neighbours Aspull make the short journey to St. George’s Park for our sponsors day. Kick off 3pm.

Under 9s MATCH REPORT!

U9s took to the road with their first away fixture of the season to Anselmians and what a morning of rugby it was! The sun was shining, the bacon was sizzling and the kids were once again on fire, winning 14-6!

Several parents from the opposition stopped to say just how drilled and how organised we were - high praise for a team that has only been together for 6 weeks!

We’ve been working on a couple of rules at a time and just drilling and embedding it until it sticks - I think we’ll all be hearing “line on me” in our sleep now thanks to Myles W - who is quickly becoming our defensive line advocate!

Another solid performance from our more experienced players - some strong forward running and superb tackling from Olly M and Charlie W.

It was great to see the team take the tackles (and the balls) and just get on with it - Rupert took a bullet of a pass straight to the nose, and was closing players down within minutes!

Another magical performance from our twinkle toes Marshall M - deservedly getting our first parents player of the season.

A big shout out to Albie W for his first try of the season, quickly followed by a second - brand new to rugby and he has taken to it like a duck to water!

Player of the match went to Eva what a debut! You’re a natural girl - looks like you’ve been tackling for years! Ran your socks off for the whole match, letting very few, if any, players past you!

Highlight of the game has to be saved for our youngest coach in the club who stepped up and reffed the game doing a great job despite our manager (and his mum) pecking his head from the side line! Thankfully he ignored most of her input and allowed both teams to just play rugby, keeping the game moving, playing advantage where possible whilst being fair yet understanding.

Next week we take on Marple at home, it would be great to see you all there to watch another U9 performance - I promise you will not be disappointed!

⚪️ Collegiate 27-19 Bongs 🔵

The lads fought hard with some entertaining rugby.

Fair play to Collegiate who in the last 10 minutes did what was needed to see the game out in their favour.

We look forward to the return fixture but lots of positives to take from this afternoon.
