Homeguard FC 1 - 1 Mossley FC
MOM - James Taylor
Goals - Scott Percival
After a slow start on a very wet Sunday morning, the Homeguard went 1-0 down in the first half to a deflected shot from Mossley. It took us a few half chances, a long range effort from Scott Percival crashing off the post and some very nice spells of football before captain Scott finally found the back of the net with an effort from just outside the area.
A shuffle in formation and some fresh legs in the 2nd half saw the Homeguard begin to dominate even more. Jamie Marsland and James Taylor both had solid games at the back, dealing with everything coming their way and had a straight battle for MOM, not to forget the Beckenbauer-esque runs from Marsy.
Homeguard pushed and pushed for the winner and did all but score it, the game finished a draw and whilst it is 2 points dropped the lads put a very good shift in. Alex 'Jnr Cat' Bradburn had a very good game in sticks whilst covering for the injured HG No1, Lee Jeffery... We won't mention who injured him though eh!
Onwards and upwards, home again next week to Dom Doyle!

The gaffer wasn’t too impressed at the sight of the hand injury dealt to Lee in yesterday’s 3-2 win away against Fleece in the cup...
3 months without The Cat, bad times! 🐱😢🚑

Homeguard FC 2 - 3 Organ Athletic
MOM - Luke Birch
Goals - Luke Birch, Billy Barnett
The Homeguard played their first fixture at their new home on Sunday against Organ Athletic. Homeguard started well and a good shift was put in from all of the lads. Spending the majority of the first half trying to break down the back line of Organ they eventually broke the deadlock, a ball whipped in from the right by Thomas Smith led to an aerial duel for his fellow strike partner Adam Bowker, the ball then fell into the path of Luke Birch on the edge of the area who smashed home his first goal of the season and the first goal of the new campaign for the New Guard.
After the break, an unfortunate error from Jamie Marsland led to an own goal which made the game 1-1. This then led to Organ banging in another two in quick succession which led to Homeguard trailing 3-1 within a matter of minutes.
Some fresh legs were introduced and the Guard went battling back with some very nice play in the middle of the pitch from Dale Day Walker which didn't go unnoticed. Homeguard grabbed a goal back, Jonathan Parker made a run down the left and fizzed it into the box where Billy Barnett managed to tap home which just made it over the line...
Homeguard kept knocking and knocking to get the equaliser when a corner in the last minute fell to Liam Paull who was then clearly fouled in the area but the calls were waved away by the referee which then led to the end of play and the game ended 2-3.
A very valiant effort from the lads and good team spirit. After 2 competitive games together, this is only the beginning of what is to come this season.
Homeguard FC 2 - 2 Dom Doyle Rangers
MOM - Liam Moore
Goals - Thomas Smith, Cameron Barnes
In our fourth and final friendly before the season starts, we was handed a big problem before kick-off with Liam Moore producing a chip with that much gravy on it, the Cat got injured and was unable to play... Which resulted in our versatile back-up, Billy Jackson, to take over the paws and do a shift in the sticks.
Nevertheless, Homeguard started strongly and the midfield trio provided plenty going forward... In a game which had no feeling of a friendly whatsoever, the firey start from the Homeguard led to them going a goal up, some superb play between Scott Percival, Liam Moore and Thomas Smith in the build-up, Liam Moore then slotted Thomas through down the right where he smashed home past the keeper.
The game was then seen out to half-time where a lot of fresh faces were introduced. Dom Doyle managed to pull a goal back, before a couple of superb saves from Billy Jackson, they added a second from a free-kick.
An bad-injury to captain Scott and a couple more changes, Homeguard managed to get back on top and created several chances before a brilliant ball from Connor Matthews over the top to the fisherman, Cam Barnes, who slipped it over the keeper and slotted home into an empty net to make it 2-2!
The homeguard had more chances afterwards to get the game won but unfortunately fell short, and finished pre-season unbeaten. Some great performances all over with Cam Barnes and James Taylor putting very good shifts in at the back.
3 wins out of 4 games with 18 goals scored and 5 goals conceded. The Homeguard begin their campaign away to the Buxton Inn on Blocksages this Sunday. Get down and support the lads!
Homeguard FC 10 - 0 Hattersley FC
MOM - Scott Percival
Goals - Thomas Smith x2, Scott Percival x2, Connor Matthews x2, Jonny Lambert x2, Liam Moore, Own goal
A brilliant performance from all involved with some really nice football on display, especially in the middle of the park with Liam Moore, Scott Percival and Liam Paull running the show.
Scott Percival opened the scoring with a long range effort into the bottom corner, before Liam Moore then slickly added another with a very similar finish. Thomas Smith then made it 3-0 with an open net, and moments later scored again with a brilliant finish into the top corner leaving the keeper no chance. Captain Scott Percival dug deep and chased down the ball to head over the keeper to make it 5-0 just before half time.
6 changes at half time didn't affect the tempo and the lads were back out in force and saw alot of missed chances before Connor Matthews and Jonny Lambert both added a goal each. Some lovely play from Connor then led to a freekick around 25 yards out, which he converted with a excellent strike. Jonny Lambert then added another with a brilliant finish over the keeper, before an own goal led the scoring to 10-0.
Really solid perfomances all over the pitch as the Homeguard welcomed back 'The Cat', who kept a clean sheet and played some Ederson-esque football out from the back. Gives us 3 wins out of 3 in pre-season and putting us in good form heading into the season which starts in 2 week time.
