Goal setting is something that easily gets overlooked by a lot of people but it is something I find absolutely essential.

Regularly writing down goals is one of the best ways I find to stay focused.

Goal setting isn't a complex skill, it doesn't have to follow some predetermined structure.

It just has to mean enough to you to make you go and do the work!

Do you set goals or do you just keep winging it?

Henry Ford said "Whether you think you can or you can't. You're right" and it's something that we should all take into consideration with our own self talk.

When we are attempting anything, whether it's a big challenge, a new diet or simply a heavy lift. If you tell yourself constantly how hard it's going to be then of course it will feel hard.

However, if you tell yourself you can without doubt achieve your goal then the chances of success vastly improve.

Next time you're about to test yourself then make sure the words you tell yourself set you up for success and not failure!!

Peter didn't step foot in a gym until he retired. He initially worked with a good friend of mine and made fantastic progress.

However, when Scott left for Marbella he handed Peter over to me and we took the first picture.

I was given 1 clear objective. Build strength and muscle.

I think we hit the brief!! Not many people in their 60s with deltoids like that who can bench press more than their own bodyweight.

Don't wait until you retire to get started though.

WHAT ARE YOU WILLING TO SACRIFICE?

Often when I speak to people about their fitness goals they want to make quite drastic changes.

Sometimes they want to change their appearance dramatically, sometimes they want to achieve something like their first marathon.

One of the most important questions I can ask at this initial point is how much are you willing to sacrifice? What are you willing to change in order to get to your goal?

This can take people off guard because they think coming to me is all they need to do and my magical programming will do the rest.

Unfortunately to make drastic changes to yourself you will likely have to make drastic changes to your lifestyle.

You can't have the amazing results without the work. You may have to fit workouts in where you may have watched netflix, you may have to say no to that takeaway and you may have to take the stairs instead of the lift.

It is a massive thing to understand that these sacrifices now are actually huge steps to where you want to be and are real opportunities to make change.

So ask yourself what are you willing to sacrifice to get to your goals? If the answer is nothing then I may have some bad news for you.

MASSIVE TRANSFER NEWS!!

I have signed on the dotted line to work with the amazing team.

The team that helped me build my online business have signed me as a business mentor for an undisclosed fee.

This move gives me a massive opportunity to help other personal trainers build their businesses the way I have built mine and try and do my bit to improve the minefield that is the fitness industry.

I will continue to PT in a purely online capacity and I look forward to growing my online business whilst also helping other build theirs.

I have been a face to face PT for around 8 years and have loved it but this opportunity will allow me to take my business to a whole new level.

For the last working set of hack squats I've been dropping the weight and hitting 8 reps without a pause or lock.

Do this after 5 x 5 reps at a heavy weight and you too could be unable to walk up and down stairs tomorrow.
