Technique Matters

Today was a first for our long course race preparation camps

The focus was on helping swimmers understand what good race preparation actually looks like. We covered race warm ups, building a clear timeline for race day, and pre race activation so swimmers know how to feel ready before they even step up to race.

We then moved into broken swims with a lot of detail. Swimmers were filmed above the water and underwater, with time spent looking at rates, splits, stroke counts, turn speed and how all of those things link together in a race.

Lots of learning, good questions, and strong engagement throughout the day. Exactly the sort of work that helps swimmers feel more confident and in control when it matters most.

We’re excited to announce our next Technique Matters Swim Clinic on Saturday 8th November 2025, open to swimmers at county level and above. This clinic will provide expert technical coaching, practical feedback, and the chance to refine race skills in a competition-style environment. Swimmers will work on butterfly technique and turns, mobility and land-based skills, as well as freestyle and starts (including backstroke) using timing pads and ledges.

The Clinic will be delivered by Multi World championship butterfly swimmer, Jessica Calderbank. Commonwealth Games Silver Medalist , Jamie Ingram and Performance Coach, Matt Turner.

We are delighted to share the news that our fantastic coach Jess, has been selected to represent Jamaica at the upcoming World Championships in Singapore.

Jess continues to be an inspiration to all our swimmers and we are all behind you.
