Merry Christmas from the Brother UK Cycling family!
20/12/2024
A training ride on the roads of the CiCLE Classic and a three-course Christmas meal were among the highlights of Team Brother UK - OnForm's first pre-season camp.
_
The Elite Development Team rode a 60-mile loop last Saturday and a 40-mile loop broken by a festive lunch the following day. Ten-pin bowling provided a further bonding exercise.
_
“It’s important to build friendships in the team. Ultimately, you’re more likely to work for someone you get along with than someone you don’t,” said manager Mark Botteley.
_
“They all get on in any case, which is one of the nice things about the team.”
_
The squad will meet again at Witham School, its UK base, in late January before heading to Calpe on Spain’s sun-kissed Costa Blanca in February for warm weather training.
_
“The hard work lasts all winter. The next five or six weeks are important. There are no shortcuts. I told the riders, ‘It’s over to you. It’s no good waiting until Calpe,’” Mark said.
_
“They need to get in the hard miles now.”
_
The team, pictured last May, enjoyed a successful 2024, finishing seventh in the National Road Series and fourth overall in the British Women’s Team Cup, despite contesting both competitions with a squad containing several junior riders.

Throwback to blue skies and Spring sunshine as the domestic peloton returned to Saltburn-by-the-Sea for April's East Cleveland Classic.
_
Racing in bright conditions eclipsing even those that had graced the National Championships the previous June, the women enjoyed their second National A race of the year while the men’s teams launched their top-tier campaigns.
_
Cat Ferguson (Shibden-Hope-Apex), who’d finished second to team-mate Imogen Wolff at the Trofeo Binda in her previous outing, resumed winning ways with a decisive attack on the final ascent of Saltburn Bank, completing her recovery from an earlier crash and bike change.
_
Tiffany Keep (DAS-Hutchinson-Brother UK) was the first rider home from a Brother UK-sponsored team, marking her UK season debut with an impressive fifth place. Team-mates Robyn Clay and Morven Yeoman finished seventh and eighth respectively.
_
Rowan Baker won the Open race for Saint Piran, finishing comfortably ahead of runner-up Tim Shoreman (Wheelbase-Cabtech-Castelli) and his Saint Piran colleagues James McKay, who was third, and fourth-placed Dylan Hicks.

Throwback to the Otley Cycle Races and victory for Frankie Hall (DAS-Hutchinson-Brother UK) in the opening round of this year’s National Circuit Series.
_
Frankie, who three days earlier had been the only rider from a domestic team to finish in the top 20 at the National Championships, demonstrated the breadth of her ability on a course in Otley crammed with steep climbs, rapid descents and sweeping turns.
_
She also finished second at the Dudley Grand Prix and tenth in a crash-marred Sheffield Grand Prix.
_
However, her performances proved equally valuable to DAS-Hutchinson-Brother UK's title-winning campaign in the National Road Series.
_
Victory in the Lancaster GP, third place in the Ryedale GP, ninth place in the Lincoln GP, fourteenth at the Curlew Cup and a top-20 finish at the East Cleveland Classic provided a vital points haul.

A round of the National Circuit Series in Dawlish and a proposed round of the National Road Series in the South West are the standouts from British Cycling's unveiling of its top-tier domestic road calendar for 2025.
_
The prospect of elite racing in regions beyond the sport’s domestic heartland aligns with the Elite Road Racing Task Force’s recommendation for more National A series races outside of the north of England.
_
Ant Gill, British Cycling’s Head of Sport, thanked organisers and partners and said next year’s calendar balanced traditional events with exciting new rounds.
_
“The Lloyds National Road and Circuit Series continues to be at the forefront of domestic racing across the nine disciplines, and we are continuing to work hard to show the advancements of elite road racing in Britain,” he said.
_
“We’re excited to see the series inspire the next generation of British cyclists while delivering thrilling racing throughout the season.”
_
The continuation of blue riband races like the Women’s CiCLE Classic, Lincoln Grand Prix, and Beaumont Trophy/Curlew Cup is likely to be welcomed by teams, riders and fans alike.
_
The return of the Lancaster Grand Prix, however, a more recent addition to the National Road Series calendar, whose women’s race was won by riders from Brother UK-sponsored teams in 2023 and 2024, is to be confirmed.
_
Three of the six rounds of next year’s National Circuit Series will be held in Yorkshire, including the much-loved races at Otley and Ilkley, and the gold-standard Sheffield Grand Prix.
_
A location for the Yorkshire round of the National Road Series has not been identified, however. North Yorkshire’s Ryedale Grand Prix concluded in August with its 19th edition. The East Cleveland Classic will return next April for riders in Open and women’s categories.
