💚🏏 WHAT A MORNING FOR WALKDEN C.C! 🏏💚

We are absolutely over the moon with today’s turnout! The response has been incredible, and we’re proud to announce that we now have enough players to field TWO Under 9s teams! 🎉

Seeing the club packed with young cricketers, smiling faces, and so much enthusiasm is exactly what grassroots cricket is all about. These young players are the future of Walkden C.C, and we couldn’t be prouder of every single one of them.

Our usual match report will be out tomorrow, but today is all about celebrating the kids, their commitment, and the amazing community that makes days like this possible.

A huge thank you to our fantastic Junior Committee for helping bring everything together, and special recognition goes to our Under 9 coaches — Sam, Emma, Danny and Kieran. The time, energy, and dedication you invest in these children week in, week out is truly appreciated and is helping shape the next generation of Walkden cricketers. 👏

The future is bright for Walkden C.C. 💚🏏

🏏 UNDER 11s MATCH REPORT 🏏

A young Winton side won the toss and elected to field first in very hot conditions. Walkden started well, with Alfie and Carter finding a couple of early boundaries, and the momentum continued through the following pairs as we finished on 272/5 from our 16 overs.

Ibrahim and Charlie continued their excellent batting form, with Ibrahim captaining the side on the night despite still being part of our own U11 team. We also fielded three of our U9 players, all of whom did exactly what was asked of them. They bowled well, batted bravely, and showed great determination throughout. Finley struck his first four, while Jack made his debut at this level. Jack and Hashir both produced some excellent spells with the ball. Well done, boys — keep working hard, listening, and concentrating. 👏

The game went right down to the final ball. Some outstanding spin bowling from Alfie very nearly secured us the win, and losing by just 4 runs felt harsh, but it will be a valuable learning experience for the team.

✨Jack was deservedly chosen as Player of the Match for his efforts on debut. 👍✨

Onto the next one — unlucky today, but well done to Winton on the victory. It was a fantastic game of cricket. 👏

🏏 UNDER 15s MATCH REPORT 🏏

It was a game of two contrasting halves for our U15s on Monday evening as they suffered a narrow defeat against Bolton Indians.

Bolton Indians won the toss and elected to bat first, but Walkden responded with one of their strongest bowling and fielding performances of the season. The team showed great discipline and energy in the field, supported by excellent and intelligent captaincy from Parker, to restrict Bolton Indians to 92/9 from their 20 overs.

In reply, Walkden struggled early against a strong spin bowling attack, with the top order unable to build momentum. However, an outstanding innings from Roman, who scored 29 from 41 balls, alongside a quick and positive contribution from Oscar with 17 from 14 balls, kept Walkden in contention throughout the chase. Despite the late fightback, the side ultimately fell short, finishing on 76/9 from their 20 overs.

There were plenty of positives to take from the performance, along with areas the team will continue to work on moving forward. 🏏

✨Player of the Match – Roman✨
Roman produced an excellent all-round performance, top scoring with the bat and taking four wickets with the ball.

Attention now turns to next week’s fixture as Walkden travel away to face Flixton.

🏏 UNDER 9s MATCH REPORT 🏏

Walkden travelled away to Roe Green this week and, after losing the toss, were put into bat first.

Jack and Tilly opened the innings positively, rotating the strike well and showing great communication between the wickets to get the team off to a steady start. Lily and new player Kove came in next, with Kove making an excellent contribution on debut, striking the ball confidently and adding some valuable runs. Contributions came throughout the batting order, with brothers Ismael and Ahmed making their first appearance together, while George and Finley also batted well to help Walkden post a competitive total.👏🏼

Walkden started strongly in the field, with the brothers combining for an early wicket — Ahmed producing the delivery and Ismael taking a smart catch. The bowling effort remained disciplined throughout against a strong Roe Green batting side. Jack was outstanding behind the stumps, keeping brilliantly and also adding a wicket to cap off an excellent all-round performance.🏏

Unfortunately, it wasn’t Walkden’s day on the scoreboard, but the team showed fantastic spirit, determination, and sportsmanship throughout a challenging game. A special mention goes to Kove on his debut, who settled in brilliantly and made a real impact.💪

✨Player of the Match – Jack✨
A huge improvement already this season, leading from the front with an excellent performance behind the wickets and a great attitude throughout the game.
