My Own Fitness Journey
All of us have pains and obstacles we face daily, and certain events happen in our lives which really can knock us back and put us in really challenging and dark places.
It’s up to ourselves to drag ourselves up again and overcome whatever life throws at us. That’s what life is about. Feeling the pain of the lows and working through it to really appreciate the highs. Nothing worth having is easy. 💪🏽
2 years ago I underwent major spine surgery which meant I had to stop working and was confined to sitting about at home. For someone so active who was used to being so busy this was a shock and really messed with my head, especially after being told so many times…”you CANT do this, you’re NOT ABLE to do that’…😒
I lost muscle, I gained fat, I felt unhealthy and unfit. I couldn’t get up a flight of stairs without being out of breathe. I felt like I looked awful in the clothes I had in my wardrobe. 😓 I was in pain when I had to walk more than 10 minutes, and generally just felt s**t. Confidence was gone, motivation was gone and I was not myself. It’s not a nice place to be and I’m sure some of you can relate.
The first steps to getting my life back on track started with small steps to change. Forcing myself to get up early. Forcing myself to eat properly. Forcing myself to get outside. 🌳 Forcing myself to exercise. I promised myself I would stick to a plan and get myself better, and before I knew it, I felt like myself again. The pain I was suffering began to fade away and before you know it I had a life again. Change isn’t always as far away as it may first seem, you just need a plan and some structure 🧠
I’ve played rugby 🏉 at a very high level and been coached by some top Strength & Conditioning coaches. I’ve also rehabilitated myself to walk, run and eventually lift weights. 🏋🏻 The two opposite extremities of health and fitness. I’ve been there and I’ve experienced all the different obstacles along the way, I know how each part of the journey feels.
