Another HUGE Sunday of football for Winton Wanderers, with plenty of teams kicking off their new seasons! 🙌

New leagues, new kits, competitive debuts and some fantastic individual and team performances across the club. Here’s how they got on 👇

🐍 𝗩𝗜𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗦 🐍
A great start to the season away at Brooklands Dragons. After a quiet opening half, Josh broke the deadlock with a brilliant free kick before the lads really stepped things up after the break. John, Blake and Tyler all found the net during an excellent second-half display. 👏⚽️

💪 𝗥𝗘𝗕𝗘𝗟𝗦💪
The Rebels debuted their new home kit in the County Cup against familiar opposition from their MYSL days. A really dominant display for large spells, controlling the game and creating plenty. A brief lapse after half-time gave them something to learn from, but overall a very strong performance. 🧡🖤

🐾 𝗟𝗬𝗡𝗫 🐾
An outstanding start to the season against Bolton Lads & Girls! The Lynx were firing from the off and produced a fantastic all-round team performance. ⚽️🔥

🏴‍☠️ 𝗥𝗔𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗥𝗦 🏴‍☠️
A massive milestone for the Raiders as they played their first ever game against a strong Flixton side. Plenty of encouraging signs to take away and lots to build on as this new team continues to develop together. 🧡👏

🌪️ 𝗖𝗬𝗖𝗟𝗢𝗡𝗘𝗦 🌪️
The newly formed Cyclones kicked off their MGSFL journey with a brilliant first outing! Plenty of goals, smiles and excitement — all while sporting a bit of a mix-and-match kit! 😂⚽️

🐈‍⬛ 𝗕𝗟𝗔𝗖𝗞 𝗖𝗔𝗧𝗦 🐈‍⬛
A tough opening test against Boothstown with plenty for the Black Cats to take back onto the training pitch. Lots to work on and improve as they get themselves back into the rhythm of the new season. 💪🧡

⚡ 𝗧𝗛𝗨𝗡𝗗𝗘𝗥 ⚡
Thunder got their new season underway in their brand-new kit… although a colour clash meant they had to reverse it when the opposition arrived in a variety of colours! 😂 A really enjoyable game and a strong team performance. ⚽️👏

🔥 𝗣𝗛𝗢𝗘𝗡𝗜𝗫🔥
A performance the coaches couldn't have asked much more from against Radcliffe. Phoenix created plenty of chances, skimmed the post several times and had a big penalty shout along the way. Loads to be proud of from the team today. 👏🧡

🦖 𝗥𝗔𝗣𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗦 🦖
What a first competitive 5v5 experience for the Raptors! The boys got stuck in from the first whistle, tackling hard, working together and producing some fantastic football with goals coming from right across the team. Liam picked up Player of the Match after a brilliant display. 🏆👏

🦈 𝗦𝗛𝗔𝗥𝗞𝗦 🦈
A fantastic opening cup performance away at Adlington, but the best moment had nothing to do with the overall result. 🧡

Four months ago, a new player came along wanting to try football for the very first time. Today she made her competitive debut. After being understandably nervous in the first half, she was encouraged to just go for it — and scored a brilliant goal in the second! ⚽️🙌

The reaction from her teammates said everything. A special coaching moment and a brilliant reminder that you’re never too old to start playing football. 🧡🦈

🃏 𝗝𝗢𝗞𝗘𝗥𝗦 🃏
A really close, end-to-end contest against Chadderton with plenty of action at both ends. The Jokers also had an effort ruled out for offside in another competitive performance. ⚽️👏

🐆 𝗖𝗛𝗘𝗘𝗧𝗔𝗛𝗦 🐆
The Cheetahs played their first competitive 5v5 game together and absolutely ran their socks off! A really close contest right until the end and plenty of positives to take from their first proper outing. Most importantly, the boys loved being out there playing football with their mates. 👏🐆🧡🖤

🦅 𝗩𝗨𝗟𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗘𝗦🦅
An outstanding first competitive game away at Ashton Town. The girls took control of the game and produced a brilliant team display, with Aoife enjoying a fantastic day in front of goal and Kayla also getting on the scoresheet. 💪🏻⚽️

🧙‍♂️ 𝗠𝗘𝗥𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗦 🧙‍♂️
A fantastic start to the new season away at Haslingden. New players made an immediate impact, including new striker Honey, who marked her debut with an incredible five goals! ⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️ Outstanding from the Merlins! 💪🏻

🔥 𝗙𝗟𝗔𝗠𝗘𝗦 🔥
A baptism of fire with a round robin against Haslingden and AFC Bolton — two sides who provided really tough tests last time around. This time the Flames produced two excellent, competitive performances and played some lovely football. A really encouraging starting point for the season ahead. 🔥👏
They also got to model the new training kit thanks to a couple of kit clashes… even if the coaches aren't its biggest fans! 😂

⛈️ 𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗠 ⛈️
Storm started the season with a bang! Fantastic teamwork, plenty of assists and three different hat-tricks made for an action-packed opening performance. 💪⚽️🔥

🐆 𝗟𝗘𝗢𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗗𝗦 🐆
A tough test against a quality Longford Park side. The Leopards took a little while to find their rhythm but produced a much-improved second half. With only one substitute available, tired legs understandably kicked in towards the end, but there were plenty of positives to build on. Great to be back! 🟠⚫️

🦁 𝗟𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗘𝗦𝗦𝗘𝗦 🦁
A big introduction to life in Section A against an excellent RTB Academy side. The girls worked incredibly hard throughout and did themselves proud against top-quality opposition. Plenty to learn from and develop as they adjust to the step up. The only way is up! 🟠⚫️🦁

🦅 𝗚𝗥𝗜𝗙𝗙𝗜𝗡𝗦🦅
Plenty of frustration for the Griffins after creating lots and playing some excellent football. A few moments defensively proved costly, but there was plenty in the overall performance to be encouraged by.

A really entertaining opener away at Eastleigh, with the Fireflies creating chance after chance — and seemingly taking enough corners to last them the whole season! 😂 A very encouraging first outing. 👏⚽️

🐏 𝗥𝗔𝗠𝗦 🐏
A really good challenge against Boundary Park, who have stepped down from the Premier Division. The Rams worked hard and gave themselves plenty to build on before Boundary showed their quality later in the game. We go again! 💪🏻🧡

🥷 𝗕𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗜𝗧𝗦 🥷
The Bandits took a little while to wake up against AFC Monton, but once they did, they produced some excellent attacking football and really found their rhythm. ⚽️🔥

🌪️ 𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗡𝗔𝗗𝗢𝗘𝗦 🌪️
A competitive opening game against MCR Devils Ignite and a reminder that every new season starts with a clean slate. The Tornadoes began brightly before the game slipped away from them, but with two players making their debuts and plenty of football still ahead, there’s lots of time to find their rhythm.

Our U7 Sparks kicked off their journey in the South Manchester Girls Football League today, taking part in their very first 3v3 Round Robin! 🧡🖤

The new 3v3 format introduced by The FA is designed specifically with young players’ development in mind – more touches on the ball, more involvement, more decision-making and, most importantly, more FUN! 🙌⚽

With smaller teams, every player gets plenty of opportunities to get involved, build confidence, try new things and develop their football skills in a positive environment. 🌟
And judging by those smiles… our Sparks absolutely loved it! 😍🔥

Loads of our teams were back in action today, with new leagues, new formats, new players and plenty of positive performances across the club. Here’s how they got on 👇

☘️ 𝗖𝗘𝗟𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗦☘️
A great start to the campaign for the Celtras, with the new striker making an instant impact by grabbing a goal on their debut! ⚽️👏

🦍 𝗦𝗜𝗟𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗕𝗔𝗖𝗞𝗦 🦍
The Silverbacks started their 11v11 adventure playing a year up against a side who finished 4th in the division last season. Five goals created plenty to be pleased about, and with a few more 11v11 games under their belts, there’s lots to look forward to. 💪⚽️

🦁 𝗟𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦🦁
The Lions began life in The BBDFL today and got a good taste of the challenge ahead. Plenty to take away, work on and build upon ahead of next week. 💪

🐺 𝗪𝗢𝗟𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗘𝗦 🐺
A challenging first half for the Wolverines, who had to make several positional changes with players missing. The response after the break was excellent, showing real character and producing a much-improved second-half performance. 💪🏻⚽️

🔥 𝗕𝗟𝗔𝗭𝗘𝗥𝗦 🔥
A strong start to the new campaign, creating plenty of opportunities and playing some really good football. A couple of late moments made for an exciting finish, but lots of positives to build on. Even a long, unmarked pitch couldn't dampen the excitement of being back! 💪🏼

🔴 𝗬𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗧𝗘𝗗 🔴
A really positive start for Yanited against Astley & Tyldesley, with a strong team performance and a clean sheet to kick off the season. 👏⚽️

⚔️ 𝗧𝗜𝗧𝗔𝗡𝗦 ⚔️
Some amazing football from the Titans in the opening 20 minutes before the early-season rust started to creep in! They regained control after the break and produced a really encouraging performance. 🟠⚫️

😈 𝗗𝗘𝗩𝗜𝗟𝗦 😈
The hard work over the summer was there for everyone to see. The Devils controlled the game really well, picked their passes and showed some excellent finishing. 👏

⚔️ 𝗩𝗜𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚𝗦 ⚔️
A brilliant start to the season for the Vikings. With limited training over the summer and plenty of new faces, the lads have gelled superbly and were at it from the very first whistle. The back line was excellent, while the football going forward showed great control, passing and creativity.

🏆 POTM – George

🐍 𝗖𝗢𝗕𝗥𝗔𝗦 🐍
A decent first outing for the Cobras and their new-look group. Plenty of good football and lots of positives for the coaching team to work with. This group has loads of potential and it will be exciting to see them develop throughout the season. 💪⚽️

✈️ 𝗝𝗘𝗧𝗦 ✈️
The Jets were absolutely flying in their first league game! Four Bobkats graduates joined some brilliant summer additions and the team produced a fantastic performance. Credit also to the Jaguars, who kept going right until the final whistle. 👏🏼🧡

🦸 𝗔𝗩𝗘𝗡𝗚𝗘𝗥𝗦 🦸
A challenging morning away at Parkwydon, with the team having to adapt early on. A couple of outstanding individual performances provided real positives, with plenty for the group to take into training and work on ahead of next week. 💪

🐂 𝗕𝗨𝗟𝗟𝗦 🐂
A superb introduction to the Bolton & Bury football League for the Bulls against a CMB side who went through last season unbeaten. A huge performance and a great benchmark for the season ahead. 👏⚽️

🐼 𝗣𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗔𝗦 🐼
What an opening-day performance from the Pandas! An incredible display going forward with goals coming from everywhere. 😮🔥⚽️

🛡️ 𝗦𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗔𝗡𝗦 🛡️
The Spartans travelled to Wigan for their first game in a new league with just nine players available. The lads worked incredibly hard and remained competitive for the majority of the game, creating several great chances along the way. Understandably, tiredness kicked in late on, but the effort and performance from such a small squad gives plenty of reason to be proud. 💪

⚔️ 𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗥𝗜𝗢𝗥𝗦 ⚔️
New players, a new league and lots to build on for the Warriors. The effort and energy couldn't be faulted and they created opportunities throughout – the shooting boots just need dusting off for next week! ⚽️🧡

✨ 𝗦𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗞𝗦 ✨
The Sparks played their first round of 3v3 football today and absolutely smashed it! A brilliant experience for the youngsters and plenty of smiles all round. 💪⚽️

🐯 𝗧𝗜𝗚𝗘𝗥𝗦 🐯
The U8 Tigers stepped up against an U9 side and produced an absolutely brilliant second-half battle. Loads of determination, fight and character on display! 😁👏

🐝 𝗛𝗢𝗥𝗡𝗘𝗧𝗦 🐝
A really competitive game for the Hornets that went right to the wire. Plenty of chances were created and the team showed lots of positive attacking play, with finishing and dealing with counter-attacks providing good areas to work on. 💪

⚡ 𝗟𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚⚡
A fantastic team display from Lightning at Stretford. Some brilliant team moves, quality passing and, most importantly, fantastic togetherness. Every player gave 100% for each other, leaving two very happy coaches! ⚡️🧡

🕷️ 𝗦𝗣𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗥𝗦🕷️
A hard-fought, scrappy encounter for the Spiders with very little between the teams. Missing a couple of players in the middle meant others had to step up, and the group showed plenty of determination and character throughout. 💪🕷️

🐦‍⬛ 𝗥𝗔𝗩𝗘𝗡𝗦 🐦‍⬛
The Ravens started their league campaign away at Swinton against a team who played a division above them last season. The lads remained competitive throughout and showed they can compete at this level. Plenty to be proud of and great to be back out on the grass! 🧡🖤

🌋 𝗩𝗢𝗟𝗖𝗔𝗡𝗢𝗘𝗦 🌋
A memorable day for the Volcanoes as they played their first-ever league game! Some fantastic early passing showed exactly what this team is capable of. After being given a reminder that league football won't always be easy, the players regrouped brilliantly, worked together and finished the game strongly. 💪⚽️

As we start another season, we want everyone to help make grassroots football what it should be — positive, enjoyable and safe for EVERYONE.

A few important reminders for players, coaches, parents and supporters:

🟠 Respect the match officials – their decision is final. Remember, referees wearing a yellow armband are UNDER 18 and still learning. Abuse will NOT be tolerated.

⚫ Spectators stay behind the Respect Barrier – please give the players and coaches the space they need.

🟠 Coaches coach – only Winton Wanderers coaches and team officials should be on the pitch line.

⚫ U11s & below – NO scores or results – these age groups are non-competitive, so please don't publish match scores or outcomes.

🟠 Positive support ONLY – encourage, applaud and support. Leave the coaching to the coaches!

⚫ Respect the opposition – win, lose or draw, we're all part of the same grassroots football community.

🟠 Shin pads are COMPULSORY – at training and during matches.

As we now get ready to kick off the 2026/27 season, we’re delighted to announce that our chosen charity will be Childflight . ✈️💙

ChildFlight is a fantastic local charity dedicated to helping children and their families by providing flights and holidays for children who are disadvantaged, seriously ill or living with disabilities — helping them create special memories and experiences together.

And now… it’s our turn to get behind another amazing cause! 🙌

We hope all of our players, coaches, volunteers, parents, families and supporters will be raring to go and ready to get involved with our fundraising efforts throughout what promises to be another EPIC season! ⚽🔥
