Balfour and Houldsworth Golf Competitions Committee

The 2026 Balfour & Houldsworth Competitions are all available online as we celebrate the 129th Anniversary.
These are golfing events, where the winners' names become part of golfing history on the Honours Boards and the prize vouchers on offer are not to be sneezed at.

The Houldsworth Cup will be played at Crompton and Royton GC
on Sunday 10th May 2026.

The Balfour Cup will be played at Stand GC on Sunday 14th June 2026.

The GS Lancashire Cup will be played at Chorlton GC on Sunday 19th July 2026.

The 2026 JD Farmer Seniors Balfour will be played
at Withington GC on Tues. 18th August.

The Winners of the 2025 GS Lancashire Cup put Burnley Golf Club on the map for the first time in 104 years.

This year the GS Lancs was hosted by Bury Golf Club for the first time in 96 years, when the man himself - George S Lancashire of North Manchester GC -may well have been playing in the competition.

Richard Johnson, Captain of Styal Golf Club is the winner of the 2025 Balfour Cup. This Cup was presented to the Golfer of Manchester in 1897 by Manchester MP Arthur Balfour, who went on to become Prime Minister in1902.

G S Lancashire 2025 - Bury Golf Club - Competition Details Balfour & Houldsworth. This portal provides full information on competition results and player profiles, powered by intelligentgolf.

This is the original trophy presented by George S Lancashire in1921, which saw the introduction of mixed team golf in the Balfour and Houldsworth annual competitions. He was the Secretary of the Manchester Fruit, Vegetable and Potato Society - thus all the decorations on the Trophy. He was a member of North Manchester Golf Club.

The Competition is now a mixed team event made up of 2 ladies and 2 gents and the scoring is based on stableford, with the best score by a lady and the best score by a gent counting on each hole.

2025 is the 128th Anniversary of the Balfour and Houldsworth Golf Challenge Cups. The 2025 competitions will be played at Disley, Bramall Park, Bury and Davyhulme Park Golf Clubs. The entry sheets are all available on-line, but some are almost full.

The Seniors Balfour on 12th August, is a relatively new competition compared with the Balfour & Houldsworth Cups and their 128 year history. 2025 sees just the 20th anniversary of the Seniors, which has become one of the most popular events. Nearly 200 players took part in the 2023, Seniors which was held at Worsley GC.
Davyhulme Park Golf Club will be hosting the 2025 Seniors for the first time. The Seniors is a Better Ball Stableford competition for men aged 55 and over. Bury Golf Club has hosted 10 Balfour & Houldsworth Competitions during the past 128 years, but this will be only the second time that it will have hosted the GS Lancashire, the first one being in 1929. The Winners names are on the Honours Board - https://balfour.intelligentgolf.co.uk/honourgslancs
The format of the GS Lancs has changed several time and it is now a Mixed 4 Player Stableford Team Event - 2 Ladies and 2 Gents, with the best lady's score and the best gent's score to count on each hole.
