If you feel like a tin man jumping straight into your weighted pull ups, you might need a bit more prep 😂
Getting yourself more prepared for your working sets is something I consider a lot when it comes to performance.
If your first set always feels heavy, you feel a bit rusty to begin with and then everything starts moving better as you go… you might benefit from working up to it rather than jumping straight into your working weight.
For my weighted pull ups, I’ll usually start with the machine, move to bodyweight and then add weight before getting to my working sets.
I keep these prep sets at around a 6 RPE or below though — your warm ups shouldn’t feel hard or leave you feeling fatigued before you even get to your main sets.
If they are starting to feel like work, I’d reduce the load or stick with bodyweight that day. The aim is to feel more prepared, not to rob fatigue from the sets that actually matter!
We underestimate how hard pull ups are, so I’ll always recommend a bit of easing in 🤗
