We’re excited to be attending the Rochdale Inclusive Activities Fair this Saturday!

Come and meet us , find out more about the support we offer for children and young people with speech, language and communication needs, and chat to us about how we can help.

Saturday 10th October 2026
2pm–4pm
Heywood Sports Village
FREE – just come along!

The event is for children and young people aged 0–25 with SEND and SEMH needs, their families, and professionals supporting them across Rochdale Borough.

There will be lots of fantastic local organisations to meet, activities to try and opportunities to find out what support is available locally.

Look out for The Speech Therapy Centre stall and come and say hello!

Why is early identification of speech and language difficulties important?

The first five years are a key period for speech, language and communication development. During this time, children are developing the skills they need to understand language, express themselves, interact with others and later support their learning and literacy.

Some early signs that a child may benefit from additional support include:

• using fewer words or sentences than expected for their age
• difficulty understanding instructions or questions
• speech that is difficult for others to understand
• difficulty joining in conversations or play
• becoming frustrated when they cannot communicate what they want
• limited interaction, attention or social communication

Children develop at different rates, but concerns about communication do not always need to be approached with a “wait and see” response.

Early identification helps us understand why a child may be struggling and allows the right support and strategies to be introduced as early as possible.

Not every child identified with a difficulty will need ongoing therapy — sometimes advice, monitoring and changes to their communication environment can make an important difference!
