I am pleased to share with you that I are offering an opportunity to join me and my good friend Satyamati for a week in the beautiful Sussex countryside for a yoga & meditation retreat Rivendell retreat centre.

During this retreat we will have the opportunity to explore the energetic principles of the Sun and Moon through the body and creative imagination.

These retreats offer the opportunity to combine the practice of yoga with the added depth of awareness that meditation creates.

An introduction to Buddhist meditation will also be taught on the retreat led by Satyamati. The Meditation and Yoga taught will emphasise a body-based approach.

Rivendell is situated on the edge of a small East Sussex village, the retreat centre itself is housed in a former Victorian rectory. Surrounding the house is a lovely garden, beyond which lie fields and woodland. It has simple communal accommodation, which is warm and comfortable.

Poem for the week is by Mary Oliver 'The Fourth Sign of the Zodiac'

Part 3.

I know, you never intended to be in this world.
But you’re in it all the same.

so why not get started immediately.
I mean, belonging to it.
There is so much to admire, to weep over.

And to write music or poems about.

Bless the feet that take you to and fro.
Bless the eyes and the listening ears.
Bless the tongue, the marvel of taste.
Bless touching.

You could live a hundred years, it’s happened
Or not.

I am speaking from the fortunate platform
of many years, none of which, I think, I ever wasted.
Do you need a prod?
Do you need a little darkness to get you going?
Let me be urgent as a knife, then, and remind you of Keats,
so single of purpose and thinking,
for a while,
he had a lifetime.

Poem for the week is by the American poet Rosemary Wahtola Trommer. 'A New Kind of Conversation'.

I find these words a moving example of how we can still be in relationship in our hearts and imagination, with people in our lives who have died.

I have no phone receiver to connect me to the other side,
but every day I speak to my beloveds through candle flame.
Every night, I speak to them through the dark before sleep.
I speak to them in the car when I am alone.
I speak to them when I walk beneath stars,
when I walk in the woods, when I walk in the rain.
It is possible to be with someone who is gone.
It is possible to feel what cannot be seen,
to sense what cannot be heard,
to be held by what cannot be touched.
It is possible for love to grow after death.
If there is a secret, it is, perhaps, openness.
The way air lets light move through.
The way a window invites in the scent of grass.
The way sand receives the ocean,
then, rearranged, lets it pass.

This weeks poem I was introduced to by the mindfulness teacher Vidyamala It is by the 10th century, Japanese poet Izumi Shikibu.

Although The Wind ...

Although the wind
blows terribly here,
the moonlight also leaks
between the roof planks
of this ruined house.

Poem for the week is by the 18th century Japanese Zen Buddhist monk Ryōkan. It is an extract from his poem Renderings.

The night is fresh and cool,
Staff in hand I walk through the gate.
Wisteria and ivy grow together along the winding mountain path;
Birds sing quietly in their nests and a monkey howls nearby.
As I reach a high peak a village appears in the distance.
The old pines are full of poems;
I bend down for a drink of pure spring water.
There is a gentle breeze, and the round moon hangs overhead.
Standing by a deserted building,
I pretend to be a crane softly floating among the clouds

Dear Yoga Friends,

⭐ Stepping Into Spring : Yoga & Meditation Workshop ⭐
Saturday 25th April 10am – 1pm
The Didsbury Parsonage, Stenner Lane, Didsbury, M20 2RQ

As we move into spring we will explore a beautiful flowing practice that focuses on the linear alignment that we find in classical yoga while opening to spiral movements found within nature.

We will explore how to find safe alignment and ease in our body while building strength and vitality through this flowing practice.

We will also explore a Yin-Restorative style practice, focusing on more stilling meditative practices, this approach focuses on more feminine qualities through longer, passive held postures, it aims to relax our musculature and work on the connective tissues, stimulating also our subtle energy systems within the body. Yin-

Restorative yoga can have a deeply relaxing effect and offer deep peace within the stresses of a busy life.

Open to all levels of experience.

The Didsbury Parsonage, a beautiful Grade II listed building set in a magical garden.
Full workshop price is £45 / £40 non-refundable, non-transferable.(Concessions apply to students, the unemployed, OAP’s)

You can book a place via the link below.
