🏏 WHAT. A. SEASON. 🏏
As we come to the final match of the season, it feels like the perfect time to reflect on what has been an absolute mega summer for Flixton Cricket & Sports Club. ❤️💙
Last year, we completely shook up what we were doing as a cricket section.
It was controversial.
It was risky.
And, if we’re honest, it was a bit of a gamble.
We made the decision to drop down a couple of divisions. Not because we didn’t want to compete — but because we wanted to RESET. REBUILD. AND CREATE SOMETHING NEW.
We wanted to reduce the reliance and cost of playing professionals at a higher level and, most importantly, create a cricket section that thrived both on and off the pitch.
And looking back now…
WE SMASHED IT. 🙌
Have we had the results on the pitch that we would have liked? Of course not — we always want more! 😂
But our biggest measure of success was never just the league table.
It was about creating a cricket section that brought people together, got members involved and made the club the place to be.
And that is exactly what has happened.
This summer, our cricket lads have been at the heart of the club. ❤️
They’ve stayed after matches.
They’ve supported the bar.
They’ve got involved in fundraisers.
They’ve brought friends and family down.
They’ve created atmosphere.
And they’ve helped make the club feel like a club again.
That matters.
We’ve had three senior teams, five junior teams and, for the first time, a ladies team. 🏏👏
We’ve welcomed our Aussie players, who came over to play cricket and have become part of the Flixton family. 🇦🇺❤️
We’ve had players who have literally grown up at this club, playing junior cricket and continuing into adulthood.
And we’ve welcomed new players who have told us just how great Flixton is to be part of.
That was the objective.
And we couldn’t be prouder.
A huge and very special thank you to Head of Cricket, Oliver Riley, who proposed the changes, believed in the vision and helped make it happen.
It was the right decision. And what a job you’ve done. 👏
And of course, none of this happens without a team effort.
