How can we flow with life’s tides with freedom and grace?

This week’s class is about going with the flow, exploring letting go, and playing with intuitive, smooth and graceful movement 🌊

Pregnancy teaches us so much about accepting and adapting to constant change. We transform in mind, body and spirit as we make space for a whole new life 🌀

Working with the water element reminds us of the natural rhythm of nature, the ebb and flow of the tides and invites us to release so we can embrace the next rise ✨

Mama-to-be Mantra Mondays 🕉️

This week, you are invited to make this Monday mantra your own. Which emotion, attitude or intention do you want to call into this week of your pregnancy? The first word that floats to the surface, from your heart or your bones, is the word to add to the end of this week’s mantra.

Take a deep breath, sigh it out and repeat after me…

“I embrace this adventure of creating life inside of me with …” 💛

A weekly mantra and little reminder of just how amazing you are and the miracle that is your pregnant body. ✨
Words are spells and these mantras are for the moments when you need a little extra mama-to-be magic. Repeat when you wake up and put your feet on the floor, in the shower, when you are stirring your morning tea/coffee or before you go to sleep.

“I am filled with the strength of my breath”

A simple but vital reminder that you have a completely free and incredibly powerful tool with you at all times during your pregnancy and especially during birth 🫁

Did you know it takes only about 90 seconds of longer exhalations to switch from the sympathetic (fight or flight) to parasympathetic state? When in the sympathetic state, we are flooded by adrenaline and cortisol, limiting the production of oxytocin and endorphines, which we want lots of to support labour. Many different things can cause this switch, both external and internal triggers.

Breathing techniques are one way to reset as they help to not only regulate the nervous system but also find a home for the mind. And when we find a home for the mind, we can focus on the strength within and the natural rhythm between breath and body which will support your baby’s path to this world 💫

So this week, if you find yourself in a situation where your breath has shortened or become shallow, you feel under pressure or overwhelmed, take a long, slow breath and repeat in your mind or outloud, “I am filled with the strength of my breath” three times. Try for 90 seconds if you can, and notice what feels different 🧠

Next class we are going to work with Golden Thread Breath as a way to become more aware of the power of the easeful breath and consciously practice the type of breath many women knowingly adopt in the first stage of labour 💛

“I trust in my own inherent wisdom”

What does wisdom mean to you? Is it something you read, learn from those you trust or something you feel that comes from within? It might be a combination of all of the above ✨

We can be bombarded with information during pregnancy, some of it helpful, some of it well intentioned but uninvited. This mantra is a reminder that YOU are most intimately connected to you and your baby 🌀 You most often hold the answers.

We explore listening to this inherent wisdom and trusting your own intuition in our weekly class. When invited to take a pose, consider how does this feel in my body? How does this feel different to my pre pregnant body? How could I adjust this to feel more comfortable/contained/supportive? 🤍

The more you can listen to your own voice, the more empowered and confident you can be in all choices in birth and motherhood. Tune out of the noise and tune into your own wisdom. You know the answers if you allow yourself to listen and trust yourself 💡

“I am enough, I have enough, I do enough”

Pregnancy can feel like a never ending series of appointments, milestones and a growing to do list as you approach the end of the third trimester. You are likely trying to plan for every eventuality, do all of the research into the best baby equipment, prepare for maternity leave and also take care of yourself.

But the truth is that you are doing enough simply by breathing 💫

With every inhale, you bathe your baby in oxygen and nurturing energy that nourishes their growing body. With every exhale, your body naturally hugs them a little closer, supporting them in the sanctuary that is your body.

You are doing enough 🤍

A weekly mantra and little reminder of just how amazing you are and the miracle that is your pregnant body. ✨

Why Prenatal Yoga? 🤰🏼

Throughout both of my pregnancies, yoga offered me a way to support myself through the immense changes of pregnancy and to effectively prepare myself mentally and physically for birth.

It kept me moving with relative ease when my body felt heavy and unfamiliar 🌼

It helped me to find calm and centre myself when feeling overwhelmed or that buzzy, nervous excitement about how our world was about to completely change 💛

And it gave me an opportunity to truly connect with and honour that short but completely transformational phase of my life, when my body was home to another soul, two hearts beating together, little fists and feet popping up to say hello while lying in savassanah 👣

That’s why I teach prenatal yoga, to share the benefits with other women so they are also supported, empowered and confident to trust their own bodies and intuition throughout pregnancy and as they approach birth. 💫

If you’re pregnant and this sounds like something you’d like to try, send me a DM. I’d love to hear from you.

“Each day I nurture myself, so that I can nurture my baby” 🌿

How does that feel? 😌

You do not need permission to nurture yourself but this mantra is here to give you a gentle nudge if you need it.
Your body is working incredibly hard right now.
Did you know that a woman’s heart works up to 50% harder to pump almost double the blood volume with every beat when she’s pregnant? Not only is your heart expanding to love this new little human, it is literally about 12% bigger to power your pregnancy.💓

So it is important to nurture yourself, so that you can nurture your baby. Whatever nurture means for you, maybe a walk in nature, starting a good book, your favourite drink, meeting friends or taking a nap (or many!).

If you are looking for a way to nurture yourself, my Sunday morning classes are a beautiful way to take some time for you, to connect with your baby through mindful movement, supportive breathwork and calming visualisations. DM me for more info.

🌊Lose your mind and come to your senses🌊

Working with Svadhisthana, sacral chakra and the water element, there couldn’t be a better intention. Svadhisthana deals with life’s ‘sweet waters, our pleasures, desires, emotions.

This can be challenging in the modern world as emotional reactions are often frowned upon, judged as a loss of control. We control our emotions by freezing our bodies, especially by stiffening the neck, raising the shoulders and clenching the jaw. Feeling or intuition is judged inferior to thinking and logic. But if not in touch with our feelings, we become out of touch.

Movement can release these emotions. Reclaim your right to feel. It’s time to lose your mind, come to your senses, dive into to the wisdom of your body to feel your experience.

Let’s move 🌊
