Thanks to Alex Harvie for the run report - he did send this in yesterday so sorry for only just posting 😊

Good afternoon Mansfield parkrun

Today Saturday 29th June 2024 Mansfield parkrun under took it's #528 th event at the Manor Park Mansfield Woodhouse.

A total of 89 runners dragged themselves out of their beds and made their way to the parkrun for an hours entertainment and fun. So thank you to all who made the start line on time. However I'll expand on this in a minute.

So as people arrived for their weekly fix of a parkrun event someone had got there before us and prepared the course for us to follow and not get lost. As yet i am confident to say that no one has ever got lost on this course. The course does not just happen in the morning the kit needs to arrive early and then it's marked out and checked under the risk assessment that has been written and approved , this allow the safety of all.

As the runners and walkers arrived and started their pre habits of getting ready so did the volunteers. Mansfield has a really hardcore set of core volunteers but are always on the look out for new volunteers. So please please offer your services once in a while. They are a great group who make this happen every week. We have lost a few due to Duke of Edinburgh scheme coming to a conclusion.

So let's get back on track to the parkrun itself.

We were privileged today as we had two volunteers giving the briefing before run time and this was caused by the mis placing of some barcodes. So not that important really !!! ,however I did not notice there being a delay in the start at all. Alternatively if things had not been sorted it would have meant upon finishing the run we would have had to wait in line until the problem had been sorted. So no biggy really. However on the topic of tokens they are not yours and belong to the parkrun, we need them returning upon handing them out scanning so that you get a time and a position. The original ones are water proof however replacement ones are not . So please please please if you have taken one by mistake would you return it next time and just pop it in the plastic tub at the end. Thank you.

They are there to facilitate a free and enjoyable event. They do ask you follow some simple basic rules
If you have a child under 11 you must run at arms length.
If you have a dog then it must be on a short hand held leash / lead.
If you are running have fun and enjoy. Easy

When ever I write the report I do always like to congratulate certain people , so here goes.

Well done to Carol Wilkinson who has come out of retirement and started park running today she completed her tenth parkrun , so we'll done you. I'm not sure if you are allowed to get a white ten t shirt however if you can I can't wait to see you flying around the course.

The second well done are to all the people who today achieved a personal best, well done. I've not been on this list for a while, however I did make number one age group today so not all bad. To be honest today were good conditions to run not too hot not to cool and a little drop of rain. So here goes see if you can spot your name.
Gavin Newhouse, William Talbot, George Faulkner, Ally Staddon, David Elliott, Erica Bramhall, Oliver Roberts, Tim isterling, Alex Webster Brown, Sarah Macdonald , Jasmine Tyres, Rebecca Perry, Emily Riley and finally Graydon Peacock. If I missed someone I'm am sorry.

The third and nearly last well done are to all the runners that chose Mansfield parkrun today, who are as follows. Declan Wainer, Jordan Baker, Matthew Maiden, Kevin Rowles, Ian Caudwell, David Beech, Sue Taylor, Jack Hutchings, Fiona Finnegan, Julie Muggleton, Mark Webster, Daniel James Johnstone, Annabelle Page, Katy Williamson, Claire Thompson, Leanne Brown, and Kirsty Jewitt.

I have to make a mention to Luke Gayton who ran in 23:49 you finished in a time that the number is linked to me, those that know , know. Well done .

So this run report comes to a close. I hope you have a great weekend and I won't see you next week as I'm in London where I'll be doing some campanolgy. Try not to google to see if you know what this is. πŸ€”.

We don’t have enough volunteers for Saturday - 1 x timekeeper needed and 1 x barcode scanner needed (the scanner can be someone who runs first).

If we don’t get these two volunteers you are in danger of not getting a time (if something goes wrong) the benefits of having 2 timekeepers is to help Garry when doing the results as he has two sets to go off. The second barcode scanner helps keep the pressure off - I’ve barcode scanned myself alone before and it was hard work.

Please help - comment below or email [email protected]

Oh no the sad little kitty is back! This Saturday we need at least 3 volunteers to make it happen - 2 finish funnel (timekeeper and barcode scanner) and 1 x tail walker.

Run Report
Mansfield parkrun
Event: 524
Date: 01/06/24

My absolute favourite thing to do on a Saturday morning is parkrun!
Being quite the parkrun tourist I’m always on the look out for new places to visit.

I’ve been running with my Border Collie Solo for over 18months now and we love being so welcomed to different parkruns each week.

Today is my 200th parkrun at my 157th venue and Solo’s 79th parkrun at his 79th venue.
We were looking for a flat and fairly small course and Mansfield fitted that just perfectly.

Our journey today coming from Manchester was 1 hour 40mins so a fairly early start for us.
We arrived in good time and upon arriving we immediately felt the huge warmth of the friendly atmosphere that’s all so familiar at parkrun.
Parking was plentiful and we soon got talking to some fellow tourists John and Susan who were visiting today from Wakefield.

A very thorough and informative first timers welcome was done today by Chalky White, thank you Chalky.

Then before long Run Director Lewis Sprowell was giving us the final bits of information before sending us on our way.
At that point you may have heard Solo bark-clapping in eagerness to get going.

The support around the course was fantastic! It always helps to have a friendly encouraging face to cheer you on, so a big THANK YOU to all the volunteers today, as we know without them giving up their time each week our parkruns wouldn’t happen.

Today’s hi-vis heroes were:

Bob THACKER β€’ Chalky WHITE β€’ Garry CHECKLIN β€’ Hannah SPROWELL β€’ Hayley MASON β€’ Helene SPROWELL β€’ Keith MCQUIN-ROBERTS β€’ Lewis SPROWELL β€’ Mick HANCOCK β€’ Owen SPROWELL β€’ Samantha ROSE β€’ Thomas SPROWELL

Volunteering is such a wonderful thing to do at parkrun so please do consider putting your name down for a role every once in a while.

The course was 3 laps on gravel paths, I quite like a lapped course as you get to see and encourage other runners/walkers at various stages of the course as well as the extra support from the volunteers.
I particularly appreciated the encouragement we got as we passed today’s tail walker Mick Hancock….. Thank you Mick.

Today saw Andrew Dalby complete his 25th parkrun milestone and Jon Reynolds complete his 100th parkrun milestone! Well done to you both and here’s to many more further milestone on your parkrun journey.

This week 69 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 14 were first timers and 16 recorded new Personal Bests.
Out of today’s new PB’s I noticed 3 people with the same surname
What a great family achievement should you all be related!

First in today was Philip Nind with a fantastic time of 16:27 and first female in and 4th overall was junior Charley Whysall with an equally fantastic time of 20:12

Thank you Mansfield parkrun for a lovely visit today, we hope we get to visit again soon.

THANK YOU TO HAZEL FOR THIS LOVELY RUN REPORT 😊😊😊

Hello,

My name is Hazel & together with my 4-legged side kick, named Bramble we are Volun-cheer Tourist Marshalls based in Newark. Volunteering is incredibly rewarding & giving a little back to our communities is a valuable gift & one that we can afford.

During my research prior to visiting, I was thoroughly impressed to discover that this parkrun is one of the parks & green spaces protected by Fields Trust in perpetuity since January 1960. Good to know our green spaces are cared for, without them we wouldn't be here enjoying this fantastic 508th event. Also. I found looking at the Mansfield parkrun page helpful. It's informative & includes details of postcode of the nearest toilets as theirs are no long available & benefits of this location include free & ample parking too.

After meeting the incredibly welcoming Volunteers & Run Director I was provided with a high-vis & for the 1st time ever a Walkie -Talkie (such a good idea- I liked this!)

Special mention to Duke of Edinburgh student Hannah for expertly guiding us to the marshalling spot & taking the time to explain why a Marshal is needed at that specific point &what to keep any eye out for. Thanks for your help Hannah.

Chinese New Year is upon us & I'm guessing Bramble's cheering (a.k.a barking) must have spooked the Dragons (Chinese Year Of The Dragon) away because we didn't see any however, we were wished a happy new by one runner - thank you !

It's been an absolute delight to meet everyone & quite possibly the friendliest bunch of parkrun participants we've ever met! Thank you to each & every one of you for taking part. Without you, we'd have nothing to do.

As I helped the others clear & carry the signs away after the event, I noticed yet another brilliant idea, distance signs. Never seen the at other event. There's just so much to like about this event!

Volunteering is a brilliant thing to do & fab way to still get that parkrun fix when injured , fancy a break, take on new skills, & is an excellent addition to your C.V plus dogs are welcome too! If you'd like to become a high-vis hero, email: [email protected] & parkrun will be delighted to welcome you.

Many congratulations to all those who gained PB's & milestones. It only remains for me to thank my fellow volunteers & to Chalky, your kindness is 2nd to none & Mansfield is lucky to have you! Thank you for all your help today.

Wishing you all a great weekend.
Best wishes from Bramble On Tour

Best wishes,
Hazel.

Second appeal …. I really need 2 more people to make parkrun happen on Saturday 10th February - if we don’t get 2 more people you’re in danger of not having a parkrun on Saturday.
