🐦‍🔥 WHAT A START TO THE WEEK AT PHOENIX BJJ🥋💯

Monday night and the academy was absolutely buzzing! 🔥

We kicked things off with our Junior BJJ team, and we even had a special guest joining in with the action. It was Russ’s birthday over the weekend, so what better way to celebrate than getting him involved with the juniors and bringing a bit of extra fun and laughter to the session! 😂🥋 Happy Birthday, Russ! 👊🏾🎉

Then it was time for our Adults Beginners Class… and what a session.

28 PEOPLE ON THE MAT! 🙌🏾🔥

A fully stacked academy, including some of our juniors who are beginning to make that transition towards the senior sessions.

The focus was on the basics and fundamentals of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu—learning, drilling, helping each other and putting the work in.

But what really stood out was the energy and atmosphere.

Different ages. Different abilities. Different backgrounds. Beginners alongside experienced students.

ONE TEAM. ONE COMMUNITY. 🐦‍🔥

Our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community continues to get stronger session by session, and that comes down to the people who walk through our doors and contribute to what Phoenix has become.

Support. Respect. Friendship. Confidence. Fitness. Self-defence. Learning. Belief.

Seeing these young athletes grow week after week is exactly why we do what we do. Every session they arrive ready to learn, work hard, and become better than they were yesterday. Their technical ability, confidence, resilience, and mindset continue to improve, and it fills us with pride.

At Phoenix BJJ, nothing is given—everything is earned.

Our grading system is based on the 3 A’s:

These are the qualities that build not only better martial artists, but better people.

👏🏾 Freddie – Another white stripe and the first yellow stripe on his belt.
👏🏾 Harper – Receiving another white stripe and her first yellow stripe.
👏🏾 Henry – Earning his fourth stripe on his grey/white belt.
👏🏾 Reggie – Receiving his fourth stripe on his grey/white belt.
👏🏾 Marley – Receiving his fourth stripe on his grey/ black and now just one step away from his next belt.

Every stripe represents hours of hard work, determination, perseverance, and the willingness to keep showing up.

We hope every one of you is proud of what you’ve achieved because we certainly are. Keep believing, keep learning, and keep supporting one another. Your efforts inspire your teammates to push harder every single day.

What an incredible weekend for Team Phoenix 🐦‍🔥

Saturday saw us head over to Alfreton with our kickboxing squad, and what a day it turned out to be.

We had six fighters competing across different weight classes and experience levels, with some of our students even stepping into disciplines they’d never competed in or even trained for before. The courage and determination they showed was incredible.

The results speak for themselves:
🥇 5 belts from our 6 fighters
🏆 One of our champions was also awarded the Midlands Fight of the Championship

An outstanding achievement and a day we’ll all remember.

Then on Sunday, we were back in action at the Jiu Jitsu Derby with four of our junior competitors, ranging from white belt through to grey/black belt level.

Their results were fantastic:
🥇 1 Gold
🥈 1 Silver
🥉 2 Bronze

Week after week, it’s amazing to see our academy and our team continue to grow. The dedication of our students, the unwavering support from teammates, parents, friends, coaches, and our committee is what makes weekends like this possible.

This club is built on hard work, respect, and supporting one another, and together we’re achieving great things.

A huge thank you to everyone who played a part this weekend. Your support means everything.

International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation European Junior Championships Dublin 2026 🇮🇪

We share the wins, and we share the losses and unfortunately today didn’t go Marley’s way.

Competing against some of the best young athletes in the world, Marley faced a very tough Brazilian opponent. It was a strong, competitive match, but on the day his opponent edged it on points and fully deserved the win.

We are all super proud of you Marley for stepping out on the biggest stage to give it your all. You’ll be back better than ever next year I’m sure.

He has no injuries, no setbacks just lessons. We’ll be back in the academy tomorrow, focused and ready to keep improving for the next challenge.

🥋 Wednesday Night Adults – 18/03/2026

This session we worked through DLR → Lasso → X-Guard transitions, moving to both the back and front-side finishes.

A technical session with plenty of detail, but what stood out most was the energy on the mats. 💯
Everyone pushing each other, helping each other, and creating that atmosphere we pride ourselves on at Phoenix.

That’s what makes the difference — not just learning techniques, but building a team that grows together every session. 🐦‍🔥
