The final whistle has now blown on this season, and what a season it has been.
2 new league structures, away trips to the south of the county and try to get 2 full teams on the pitch each week. And we smashed it!
The 1st team were not expected to do much this season but, WOW, they have performed. Finishing 5th in the league, narrowly missing 4th place and some great results against established NCL teams.
The A team, from not winning a game in the 2025 season we fulfilled every fixture, had several great wins, competed well against the best teams in the league and made it to a final.
Well done and thank you to each and every player that has pulled on a jersey this season, you are why we are here and why we going, keep it up!!
We had 14 from 2025 seasons U16s step up to play Open Age, with 10 of these also making it into the 1st team, a huge well done to them, and to our fantastic Youth System, whose hard work, commitment and dedication over the past decade is now paying off.
Massive thanks to our coaching team, their devotion and commitment is tireless, a true testament to the team’s success. And long may it continue.
Huge well done to our committee & volunteers, from marking out the pitch and getting everything ready for game day, physio duties, cleaning out the changing rooms, getting kits washed and ready for the next match, preparing the post game food, doing a gate collection, raffles and other countless, unseen jobs which keep the club running week to week.
Thanks to our outstanding bar staff who keep the drinks flowing on matchdays and to the army of supporters, rain or shine, home or away the backbone of the club who pack out the side lines each week.
Another massive thank you to Martin & Linda of MLP Photography, the have captured some amazing moments throughout the season for us all to enjoy.

Port end season on a high

Maryport ended the 2026 season with a comprehensive 42-16 win over Clock Face Miners in the NCRL Shield

Needing to win by 38 points or more to progress to the next after last weeks 52-14 defeat to the same opposition, it was always going to be a tall order. The pre match talk was about performance rather than the result and the team produced some good rugby to take the win but it was Clock Face who progress with a 68-56 aggregate score. Best of luck to Clock in the rest of the competition

Half backs Lewis Moore and Keenan Winter crossed both converted by Moore before a skirmish led to Winter and Clock ho**er Kenny Hughes being sent off, along with sin bins for centre Jack Shepherd and one of the Miners backs

Miners crossed next with a converted try just after Maryport lost Moore with a nasty cut which needed hospital treatment. Half time 12-6 Maryport

After losing both halves early, the experienced and versatile Ellis Nixon moved into half back and fielded the opening kick off of the second half and put back rower Joel Baker away for a long range try before Clock hit back to make it 18-10

The rest of the half belonged to the young Maryport side though, playing some good rugby in difficult circumstances and scored a further 3 long range tries from full back Bobby Bell, and wingers Tyler Chilton and Danny Herbert before prop Luke Baker barged over. Full back Bell took over the kicking duties from Moore and kicked 5/5

Joel Baker was awarded MoM by the opposition closely followed by Nixon and Bell was the referees choice

Another youngster making his First Team debut today is Callum Toal

Although small in stature, Callum has held his own in the A team this season at ho**er and loose forward, as well as filling in in the centre to help the team out when needed

In total, 14 lads from this age group have played Open Age rugby this season and Callum becomes the 10th to make his First Team debut, with 5 featuring in today’s 17 against Clock Face Miners and another, Johnny Ivison as 18th man. A fantastic return of players coming through the Youth system, which has long been our philosophy as a club and hopefully more will come through the pathway in the years to come

Again, another massive thank you to the coaches and volunteers of our Youth section as without them, none of these lads would be filtering through
