Monday 7th September was our event at Albury Estate Fishery.

Due to the prolonged heat over the summer impacting most fisheries in the UK, Tony and his team of guides had to come up with a plan to offer alternative activities to fishing.

Our members enjoyed learning how to tie flies, a casting clinic and a short time on one of the smaller ponds.

Tuesday 1st of September was the return of Cancer and Pisces Trust at Swinton Estate swintonestate

For the first time, (and by complete chance) aside from Tom and one other, the morning session were all ladies!

Another first was having The Solan Connor Fawcett Family Cancer Trust teamsolantrust join us with their team of Warriors! Thank you to Michelle Atkinson for organising and bringing them.

As well as the safety and wellbeing of our members, fish welfare is also very important to The Cancer and Pisces Trust.

There are some do's and don'ts when catching fish - especially when catch and releasing:

🎣If you manage to catch a trout and bring it in with a net, let the net stay in the water for two minutes - this gives the trout a chance to recover and calm down.
🪝We use barbless hooks - in the vast majority of cases, the fish will spit the hooks out whilst resting in the net. This also has the added benefit of not being as disastrous if you hook yourself, as it can be removed easily!
🖐️If you want to take a photo holding the fish, make sure to wet your hands first. Dry hands can feel like burning to the fish!
💚When you are ready to release your fish, you can either use the net to gently guide the trout back into the water. If you are holding the fish, place it back into the water while maintaining your hold until it begins to swim away.
