You don’t need to grip. You don’t need to pull everything in by 1/3 and you certainly don’t need to pre-cue your pelvic floor on every movement !
One of the quickest ways to improve pelvic floor health is to allow your dynamic domes to move.
Simply put, when you breathe, your diaphragm needs to move and your pelvic floor needs to move.
If we’re constantly gripping the pelvic floor and abdominal muscles, we can make it harder for these dynamic domes to move freely. And that can get in the way of developing a pelvic floor that is strong, flexible and adaptable.
One of the cornerstones of pelvic floor health is allowing the pelvic floor to move in synchrony with the diaphragm as we breathe.
This is why bringing awareness to this relationship in Pilates can be so useful.
A lovely cue is simply to focus on the two domes moving together as you breathe and move. I find this can be a really centring focus in class.
Give it a go.
Movement is medicine
