Next up in our Meet the Team series, it’s time to introduce the two players wearing the armband for our 2026/27 season… 🏉

👏🏻Alfie Giles and Vinny Lewis 👏🏻

Two different areas of the pitch, but two players who share the same commitment, dedication and attitude towards their team. 💪🏻

Alfie and Vinny have been chosen as our co-captains because of the way they carry themselves on the pitch, encourage those around them and lead by example.

With Alfie representing the forwards and Vinny the backs, we’re looking forward to seeing them lead the squad together throughout the season. 💚💛

Wear those armbands with pride, boys! 🏉👏

🏉💚💛 MEET THE TEAM | COACH JAMIE GULLIFORD 💛💚🏉

Next up is Coach Jamie!

Jamie joined our coaching team part-way through last season and is now heading into his first full season with our Under 11s. 🏉

Since coming on board, Jamie has settled straight into the team, getting involved at training and on match days and helping our players continue to learn, develop and enjoy their rugby. 💚💛

We’re looking forward to having Jamie alongside us for a full season and seeing what the 2026/27 season brings for this brilliant bunch of players.

🏉💚💛 MEET THE TEAM | COACH NICK GILES 💛💚🏉

Next up is Coach Nick!

You can usually hear Nick before you can see him 😂 His voice carries from the sideline as he’s always encouraging the players, keeping them going and making sure they believe in themselves.

He also doesn’t half love a motivational speech! 😂 Whether it’s before a game or at half-time, Nick is always there with plenty of encouragement and a few words to get the team fired up. 💚💛

And with a name like Nick, he certainly lives up to it… 🎅 He does a mean Santa Claus! We’re already wondering whether the red suit will be making another appearance at this year’s Mini & Juniors Christmas Party! 👀🎄😂

A big thank you to Nick for everything he does for our Under 11s — we’re lucky to have him as part of the team! 💚💛

💚💛 MEET THE TEAM | COACH KYLE 💛💚

Next up in our 2026/27 team is Kyle Lewis! 🏉

Kyle is one of those coaches who truly goes above and beyond for every single one of our players. Whether it’s at training, on match day or away from the pitch, he gives so much of his own time to this team and is always there to encourage, support and bring out the best in them. 💚

But anyone who knows Kyle knows it’s not all serious! 😂 He brings so much laughter, fun and joy to the team and has a brilliant way of making sure the players enjoy themselves while they learn.

Most importantly, Kyle teaches them what rugby is really all about. It’s not just winning matches or scoring tries — it’s teamwork, respect, friendship, resilience, picking each other up and being proud to pull on that Merthyr shirt. 🏉💛

He celebrates their successes, supports them when things don’t go their way and makes sure that every player knows they are an important part of this team.

We’re incredibly lucky to have a coach who cares so much about the players as young people as well as rugby players.

Thank you for everything you do, Kyle — for the hours you put in, for always going above and beyond and, of course, for keeping everyone laughing along the way! 😂💚💛

We want to wish a huge good luck to one of our own, Isla Davies, who is leaving us to focus on the next exciting step in her rugby journey — training and playing with the Maidens. 🏉🌟

Isla, we are so incredibly proud of you. Watching your confidence grow has been amazing. We’ve seen you take the knocks, get straight back up, put in some cracking tackles of your own and grow into a stronger, more confident player every week. 💪

You fitted into this squad so well and became such a valued part of our team. You’ll be genuinely missed by your teammates and coaches, but we couldn’t be prouder to see you taking this opportunity.

Go and give it everything, back yourself and most importantly, enjoy it. You’re going to absolutely smash it, and we can’t wait to watch you grow and see everything you achieve. 🌟

We’ll always be cheering you on from the sidelines. 💚💛

Next up, it’s time to introduce two people who do far more than the title ‘Team Manager’ could ever cover… Holly Jones & Rhiannon Davies 🏉💚

These two are a huge part of our Under 11s team. From organising fixtures, festivals and events, sorting paperwork and endless messages, keeping parents and coaches in the loop, arranging all the little details, and generally making sure everyone is where they need to be, when they need to be there… they do it all! 🙌🏻

So much of what they do happens behind the scenes and probably goes unnoticed, but our team simply wouldn’t run the same without them.

They give up so much of their own time for our players and are always there to help and go over and above for our team 🫶🏻

We’re incredibly lucky to have Holly & Rhiannon as part of our rugby family. 💚💛
