L E T ‘S W E L C O M E 2 0 2 2 🥂 🎉
Even though 2021 was a very challenging year for Karate we acknowledge the support of our members and also the dedication of our instructors in keeping everyone engaged and managing to progress through what seemed like constant disruption. We still managed to get members through 275 belt changes across all our clubs 🤩

As we welcome 2022 we look forward to a promising year and take this opportunity to outline a few WKKU goals;
1️⃣ Continue to provide quality karate
2️⃣ Increase membership within the WKKU
3️⃣ Develop the next generation of fighters
4️⃣ Provide international opportunities for our ‘elite’ competitors

Some key activities to help us achieve these goals will include…
➡️ New junior club; Gellideg
➡️ Aberfan club starting an adult class
➡️ Plans afoot for a further junior club
➡️ New junior fight squad membership
➡️ International All-styles & Wado comps

In parallel our focus continues to be to work toward…
☑️ Kyu Gradings for our junior clubs
☑️ Kyu Gradings for our adult members
☑️ Black Belt gradings

Let’s work together in making 2022 a successful year for everyone 👊

NEW FIGHT SQUAD STRUCTURE
Before Lockdown the WKKU had a good squad structure in place for our competitors, and we’d now like to reignite that.

Since lockdown tournament interest for some previous squad members may have changed. Plus we have newer members we’d like to bring on board. Plan is, scrap the old squad groups and call for interest again.

Squad sessions will be once a month. These are additional activities not instead of your club classes. We’ll start with just two squads;
🥊 Junior Squad (under 14)
🥊 Senior Squad (14yrs+)

Criteria for squad membership is;
☑️Actively competing (or desire to compete soon)
☑️Regular training at your club
☑️Regular attendance at squad sessions
Note: Exemption is for those away at Uni

Membership will be dynamic; when criteria is met new members will be invited, and when criteria is no longer met members will come out.

🗣Let us know if interested 👊

We will be taking a break on Wednesday 27th October as it is the week of half term. Training as normal tomorrow evening , looking forward to seeing you all 👊

11/10/2021

Well done to Logan getting a decent run yesterday. Bronze at +75kg after beating fighters from Kaisho, JKS, & CEK before meeting Joe Kellaway in the semis where Logan lost 2-0 to a single roundhouse to the body. Now that’s a podium with some talent…Joe Kellaway, Greg Anderson, Logan, Ben Welch.

Good run for Alex in the under 16’s, getting to the 3rd round. Narrow 1-0 loss for Jason against Auden Daniels. Plenty of positives from Harrison & Elise in their first big comp at under 16.

Hell of a high level event for the first one back. Massive entries meant Logan didnt compete until 8pm. Hopefully a few more comps now for other members to prepare for.

Good luck to every fro WKKU competing at the Central England open championship in Worcester today. 👊
