It was a girls in cricket day today!
Anna and Heidi started things off playing for the u11s away at Skelton Castle this morning with both of them taking wickets as they ran out comfortable winners. Katie was back in Marton colours for the 4ths and took 5 wickets off her 7 overs as she helped restrict Guisborough to 132 for 8 and the 4s held on to win by 3 wickets.
Finally in the 3rd team our Women's and Girls Captain Lucy made her senior debut away at Wolviston. Unfortunately not on the winning side but Lucy was 0 not out batting as she had to go into bat for the last 10 balls of our innings.

The Women's Team were back in action tonight at the home of cricket after a few weeks off. We hosted Darlington in the Hardball Hundred League. Darlington won the toss and elected to bat. In hot conditions it was key to rotate to the bowling and all the girls bowled superbly tonight. Darlington's captain led the way for her team batting through the innings for 42 but we managed to starve her of the strike as Darlington posted 82 for 4 off their 100 balls. The wicket takers for us were Ava 1 for 12 off 4. Isla 1 for 12 off 4, Rosie 1 for 8 off 2 but it was young Anna the stand out bowler no wides or no balls as she took 1 for 11 off four overs including a wicket maiden in the last over of the innings.
To win it we would need to post our highest total to date. Rosie and Lucy opened up and immediately it looked like it was going to be tough for us to score against some slow low bowling. Rosie was caught for 2 with the score on 12, Claire joined captain Lucy in the middle and they slowly ticked the score along with some help from the Darlington bowlers. At half way we were still 1 down for 42, 41 needed off 50 balls. Claire and Lucy continued to tick the score along until the 16th over when the 55 run partnership finally came to an end as Claire was caught out for 18. Ava comes in at No.4 16 still needed to win with 21 balls left. A few quick singles and the scoreboard kept ticking. We got it down to 5 to win off the last 10. 2 for Lucy, 1 for Lucy, a wide and then Ava hit the 93rd ball for the winning run.
A great all round team performance with bat, ball and in the field as we secure our 2nd win of the season.

New Feature alert as we focus on Girls Cricket at Marton.
On Sunday we had 2 teams in the u13 softball festival at Sedgefield. Captain Martha led the Performance Team to two wins out of two against Sedgefield and Middlesbrough with Anna once again highlighting her all round skills with bat, ball and fielding. Mia captained the Development Team for the first time as a very young side lost out to some good teams in Great Ayton and Newton-Le-Willows.
On Monday the u14 Hardball Team were in action as they fell to a 10 run defeat to Middlesbrough in what was an excellent standard of Cricket from both sides. Captain Lucy top scored and took a wicket as we came so close.
It was even closer for the u14s as they turned out in the rain against Yarm on Thursday with the game finishing as a tie. A solid batting display with contributions all round for the loss of just two wickets saw us post a competitive total. Yarm came out on the attack from ball one and with some good fielding and bowling we kept chipping away to stay in the contest. Anna and Martha got some wickets to get it close and then it was over to Captain Lucy to try and grab the win. With just two balls to go Lucy took the wicket to put us 4 ahead but fair play to the Yarm batter she smashed the last ball of the game which was destined for middle stump to the boundary through mid wicket and the game was tied.
The girls continue to represent in the mixed age groups. With Anna and Heidi is turning out for the 11s and making solid contributions to the team. Ava turned out for the u13s and took 3 wickets in their win over Skelton Castle on Tuesday.
Keep up the good work girls.

Our Performance Team won both of their matches with wins against Sedgefield and Middlesbrough. Our young Development Team enjoyed their experience but unfortunately lost out on both occasions to Great Ayton and Newton-le-Willows.
