Staithes athletic 2 Linthorpe 3
After last week’s shambles the squad knew they had to put it right today even with a depleted squad (14) 🤦♂️
Starting the game nice and fast we looked to be in total control with the game looking like it was defence vs attack, a lot of chances created early on but struggled to get that final part right.
On the 23rd minute Terry played a sublime pass through 4 opposition players to find Danny in a foot race with there goal keeper who brought him down with and awful challenge PENALTY Danny dusted himself off and slotted away the spot kick 0-1 ⚽️
Staithes opted to play with the ball in the air at every opportunity and won a succession of corners through it but never seemed to trouble the lads first half 👍
More attacking play seen Billy Harland send 3 players to the shop for some sweet 🍬 and put in a beautful ball to Danny who slotted just wide of the gaping goal 🤦♂️ should of been 3 ahead at the break
Half time
The second half plan was simple more of the same and put the game to bed early…. Didn’t go to plan again 😂 Staithes equalised straight from kick off to make it 1-1 with another long ball that we just didn’t defend well ⚽️⚽️
The game was pretty much one sided but it was looking like another bad day infront of goal when nothing was falling right for us 77 minutes and we win a corner Danny Malcolm delivers a beautiful ball to the back stick and George meets it in the air and places his header through the keepers legs 1-2 ⚽️⚽️
88 minutes in and Staithes equalise again from a corner shocking defending with the lad winning a free header 2-2 ⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️
Final few minutes of the game sees Liam waters break down the wing cuts in and gets brought down on the edge of the box, up steps Billy Harland and whips it into the top corner of the goal to clinch all 3 points on the road 2-3 ⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️
A tail of two halfs again like last week but this time we showed some fight and came away with all 3 points. Well done boys 🤝
Man of the match couldn’t go to just one player today because there was some fantastic performances
Motm-George Wilkinson only his second appearance this season at the heart of the defence and he headed and kicked everything in 2 yards off him and brought a calmness to the back line 👏
Motm-Terry Carline pulled the strings all game and kept the whole team ticking with his ball playing 👍not to mention some outrageous balls through there back line 👏
