During clarity sessions with me, I discovered that many professionals continue to acquire degrees, skills and certification.

They don't know where their career is leading to.

They have no career plan.

That's why one of the topics in my upcoming webinar is "Career Planning and Positioning For Global Opportunities"

Many people from my part of the world run away when they hear come and volunteer because in most cases, their is no payment involved.

But, what they don't realise is that volunteering can give experiences and skills required for global opportunities.

Experiences and skills such as project management, leadership, coordination, communication, teamwork.

Everything is not money.

Most people think job application rejection is always due to lack of skills.

But many times, it is not.

The problem is not that you are not qualified.

The problem is that your CV is not positioning your skills well enough to grab the attention of the recruiter or pass through the ATS — Applicant Tracking System.

You may have the experience.
You may have the qualification.
You may have the achievements.
You may have the transferable skills.

But if your CV does not communicate them clearly, strategically, and in the language of the role, you may still be rejected.

Recruiters do not have time to guess your value.

Your CV must show:

• What you can do
• What you have done
• The impact you have made
• The problems you can solve
• The skills that match the role
• The evidence that makes you stand out

A good CV is not just a list of jobs.

It is a positioning document.

It should tell the recruiter:

“This person understands the role, has relevant experience, and can bring value.”

Before you conclude that you are not good enough, check your CV.

Is it targeted?
Is it achievement-focused?
Is it using the right keywords?
Is it showing impact?
Is it aligned with the job description?
Is it easy for both humans and ATS to read?

Sometimes, rejection is not a reflection of your ability.

It is a reflection of poor positioning.

Package your skills.
Show your value.
Position your experience.
Apply strategically.

As a mentor on the UK Government Help to Grow: Management Programme, a UK Government-supported programme designed to help small and medium-sized businesses improve their leadership, management, productivity, resilience, and growth.

It supports SME leaders through practical training, peer learning, and one-to-one mentoring, helping them build a clear growth action plan for their business.

I was matched with an Associate from an architectural studio that has been in existence for over 25 years for a 10-week mentoring session.

Over the 10-week mentoring journey, our focus was clear:

• How to use existing business data more productively
• How to improve profitability without losing the firm’s identity
• How to achieve marginal gains through small but strategic improvements
• How to strengthen marketing and networking for new opportunities
• How to address a top-heavy structure without major disruption
• How to think more intentionally about succession and leadership transition

We explored practical ways to streamline internal processes, use data for better decisions, improve marketing effectiveness, open up new markets through networking, and support a more strategic leadership transition as the founding directors gradually step back.

After our final session, my mentee shared this feedback:

“I feel that all our sessions have been productive and I now have a plan of action with things that can be implemented over the next few months.”

This is what meaningful mentoring should do.

Not just provide advice, but help the business move from reflection to action.

As someone with a PhD specialising in Strategic Orientation and SMEs Performance, and experience supporting small businesses, this mentoring journey reminded me again that SMEs do not always need complex solutions.

Sometimes, they need clarity, structure, honest reflection, and practical steps they can implement immediately.

One major thing that stood out was that growth does not always mean becoming bigger. Sometimes, growth means becoming more efficient, more intentional, and more profitable while staying true to your values.

The goal is not always to do more.

The goal is to do more of the right things.

I am happy to apart of this small business success story.

Your faith-based experience in service groups and community service is volunteering, and it can attract global opportunities to you.

So why is it not on your CV?

Many people serve in church, mosque, faith-based organisations, community groups, welfare teams, youth groups, women’s groups, outreach teams, media teams, organising committees, and charity projects.

They coordinate people.
They plan events.
They manage communication.
They solve problems.
They lead teams.
They support vulnerable people.
They raise funds.
They mentor others.
They serve consistently.

But when it is time to write a CV, they leave it out because it was unpaid.

Unpaid does not mean unimportant.

Your service is experience.
Your commitment is evidence.
Your leadership is transferable.
Your impact is valuable.

Global opportunities are not attracted only by paid work. They are also attracted by proof of service, leadership, responsibility, consistency, and impact.

Stop hiding valuable experience because it came from a faith-based or community setting.

Document it.
Package it properly.
Show the skills.
Show the impact.
Add it to your CV.

Your service counts.

Position it for global opportunities.

You don’t have equal advantage/opportunities with the people who are comparing yourself with.

Take it easy on yourself and celebrate where you are.

It will surely get better.

I checked my research profile this morning and saw something that reminded me again why visibility and positioning are non-negotiable.

In the month of June my work had reached 6 nations of the world.

60 papers had cited my work.

227 mentioned my work.

See the the attached.

For me, this is not just about numbers.

It is a reminder that when your work is visible, credible, and strategically positioned, it can travel beyond your immediate environment.

Your value can get to rooms you have not been physically.

Your work can speak in countries you have not visited.

Your expertise can be discovered by people you have never met.

Your impact can travel further when it is properly positioned.

This is one of the reasons I am putting together the Global Positioning for Global Opportunities Webinar.

Many professionals, business owners, leaders, researchers, and purpose-driven individuals carry great value, but their value is hidden, under-communicated, or not strategically positioned.

This webinar is designed to help you understand how to position your value, expertise, career, business, or work for wider visibility and global opportunities.

You are not short of value.

The missing link is clarity, visibility, and strategic positioning.

“I have worked in the civil service for 20 years. I don’t have any value.”

This was what a man told me during a conversation when I mentioned the importance of positioning your value for global opportunities.

I stopped him and said, "You are sitting on 20 years of transferable value".

Twenty years of experience.

Twenty years of institutional knowledge.

Twenty years of problem-solving.

Twenty years of working with systems, people, processes, policies, documentation, administration, coordination, leadership, and service delivery.

Yet, in his mind, he had no value.

Imagine that!

That conversation reminded me again that many professional are not short of value.

They are short of clarity.

They have experience, but they have not translated it into value.

They have skills, but they have not packaged them properly.

They have knowledge, but they have not positioned it strategically.

They have credibility, but they have not made it visible.

This is why many professional can carry powerful experience for years and still feel invisible, underpaid, overlooked, or stuck.

Your value is not always in a certificate alone.

Your value may be in what you have survived, solved, managed, led, improved, built, supported, coordinated, taught, trained, or contributed to over the years.

But until you can identify it, articulate it, position it, and make it visible, the right opportunities will not recognise you.

This is one of the reasons I am hosting the Global Positioning For Global Opportunities Webinar.

At this webinar, I will be teaching you how to gain clarity about your value, position it strategically, increase your visibility, and begin to attract opportunities across career, business, consulting, speaking, funding, collaborations, and professional growth.

Last week, I had the privilege of serving on an Incubation and Business Idea Review Panel, where upcoming small business owners presented their ideas for scrutiny, feedback, advice, and practical guidance on how to strengthen and develop their business concepts.

It was such a refreshing and insightful experience.

For me, it was another opportunity for knowledge transfer, sharing practical insights on business clarity, value proposition, customer needs, positioning, sustainability, and growth possibilities.

More importantly, it was an opportunity to support prospective entrepreneurs as they take bold steps towards birthing their ideas.

Small businesses remain a powerful driver of economic growth.

In the UK, according to research, SMEs account for around 60% of private sector employment and over half of business turnover.

Beyond the numbers, they create jobs, generate income, solve local problems, support communities, and open doors for innovation.

This is why supporting small business is far more important for the growth of an economy.

Sometimes, what an entrepreneur needs is not just money, but the right question, the right feedback, the right structure, and the right encouragement to move from idea to ex*****on.

For me, this is one of my ways of giving back, using my knowledge, experience, and research background to support small business owners, strengthen enterprise development, and contribute to wider economic growth.

Every great business starts as an idea.

But with the right guidance, that idea can become impact.
