I’m so proud of Santander’s Embrace Network and all they’ve achieved since 2014. I know first hand the difference they can make in any LGBTQ+ colleague or ally’s journey when given the opportunity to support.

To be internationally recognised, as outstanding employee network of the year, what an achievement.

Congratulations to the team of incredible humans behind it all, who volunteer on top of their day jobs by the way, you have made this possible.

I so enjoyed myself at my first in person event with Santander UK’s HR team yesterday.

It was my pleasure to co-host the Q and A with our Chief Executive Officer, Mike Regnier and our Chief People Officer, Juan Ignacio Echeverria, opening up the conversation to a room of c.300 HR professionals around what the future holds for Santander. We gained invaluable insight direct from our leaders into the role we as a function and as individuals can play.

What a Monday, definitely a personal highlight of my career!

An amazing day on Saturday, celebrating 50 years of Pride and walking in the London Pride Parade for Santander UK with .coaching.

What stuck with me with this from this incredible day was… this event is the first I’ve spotted any protesters. Which makes me quite sad. That this world can warp someone’s brain so much, they actively speak out against the happiness of others. They can’t see that this event is about us. Our happiness. Our lives. Our bodies. Our right to love and be loved.

Never understood it myself, probably never will.

I realised I liked woman at the ripe old age of 28. It took me a couple more years to be comfortable and accept myself.
No matter where you are on you’re journey, out, not out, an ally, or someone who has still to discover themselves, I promise you you are valid, and the best is yet to come.

Just in case anyone has forgotten, in 2022; 71 countries still criminalise homosexuality between men, 43 countries criminalise lesbianism. In 11 of those countries anyone from our LGBTQ+ community can be given the death penalty. 15 countries criminalise the expression and gender identity of transgender humans.

So before I hear any “where’s the straight Pride comments?!” This is why. We must celebrate loudly for those before us who couldn’t, and the millions across the world who still can’t.

You never think that your story will resonate with people... until you tell it.

I was honoured to be asked to speak at the Women in Enterprise lunch yesterday on the theme of Creating Unshakeable Belief in Yourself.

If I could tell my younger self, that girl who entered the corporate environment with all kinds of self-doubt, that I'd be using my story to help people and drive home a point that believing in yourself is the single most important thing you can do, she would have laughed in my face.

I am so excited to be part of this amazing network built on supporting each other and giving back to the community.

I love what I do.

I’m looking forward to speaking at the Women in Enterprise networking lunch this month on the theme of unshakeable beliefs.

Building on my talk from International Women’s Day, I hope my perspectives and experiences will not only inspire, but empower those who take the time to listen.

We’re all so proud at Santander of Lacey for being nominated. Well done to everyone who was nominated and those who won. Your achievements are inspiring!

I felt happy, sad, proud and everything inbetween listening to the experiences, stories and perspectives from across the community, an amazing event celebrating all things LGBTQIA+.

An ally asked me on the night “do you feel like a minority Laura?” .. my response .. “At these events? Never.”

Brene Brown tells us that rarely does a response make anything better. Showing empathy, in the right way, at the right time, can really help us connect with others, helping them to feel heard, validated and understood.
