“Two wins from two in the league for City Ladies”
MK City FC Ladies welcomed Stewkley Women to Tattenhoe Lane this afternoon, returning to league competition after a cup game last week.
The game started fairly even, but City began to take some control of the game and were playing some nice football particularly in the middle of the park, whilst being dangerous on the wings with plenty of energy.
Mylee Ashby put City ahead around the half hour, played in by Brit, fired home into the right corner of the net.
City had their chances to extend the lead, but went in at the break 1-0 ahead, thanks largely to a great save from Molly Norman in goal with a one on one.
The second half began in similar vain to the first, City having a couple of chances to extend their lead through Mylee, one of which hitting the bar, but they did extend their lead on 63 minutes.
A Short corner routine from Hope, finding Summer who played it in low to Izzy, who then laid it back to Mia Malpass who smashed it into the roof of the net from fully 25 yards, a goal fitting to win any game. And it did, because within two minutes, Stewkley’s right sided forward, burst clear after a fine through ball and fired over Molly to reduce the score to 2-1.
Molly made another fine save towards the end to preserve the lead, but City held on to win 2-1 which could have been more comfortable, but credit to Stewkley for battling til the end.
Britney Ashby, solid at the heart of defence throughout, and moving into the middle in the second half, heading everything away, was deservedly named player of the match.
A good start to the league season for City, and an away trip to also unbeaten Longford Park next week.
