Book on the Club website, only book if you can definitely make it (barring unforseen last minute changes that happen to us all from time to time!)

For non members that don't know Abbey, Abbey regularly plays for England and her style of teaching is relaxed, fun and the Abbey Smith Bridge Club has excellent accessible facilities in Buckinghamshire 8 miles from Milton Keynes. The Wednesday Duplicate *15th July 2026* is cancelled exceptionally, because the England football team are playing Argentina in the World Cup semi-final match at 8pm, and when polled, the overwhelming majority of bridge players were intending to watch the match!

In July 2026 England ended the European Championships in Riga - Latvia - in 5th place out of 25, and with the top 8 teams qualifying for the World Championships in Barbados in August 2027, the England team will be competing on the World Stage! The three pairs that competed in Riga are Maggie Knottenbelt and Ben Handley-Pritchard (left panel|) our Abbey and Martin Jones (centre panel) and Sally Anoyrkatis and John Athey (right panel). The entire team are picture below with their non-playing Captain Michael Hornung.

Day 7 was tense but it was the culmination of a long week! But what a week, the Team ranked 5th overall and given the top 8 qualify for the World Championships next year - the team will be in Barbados competing on the world stage! How amazing! Here at the Abbey Smith Bridge Club we are all enormously proud!

*UPDATE* END OF DAY 6, 6th JULY - the team finished third at the close of play with Poland and Belgium ahead of them! Today is the final day and the team are currently playing the host team, Latvia (6th), and then Scotland (16th) and finishing with Sweden (8th). The aim is to finish in the top 8 and qualify for the World Championships in Barbados next year!
