☀️ Saturday

🚗 1st XI | Lost to Great Oakley CC by 9 wickets
We'll keep this one brief. Very brief. 😂
A slow start saw Faisal go for 6 and Andy Overton grind out 18 from 56 balls before Darran Gillions (32) and Prakash Rai (30) tried to get things moving.

Josh Hobson added 20, while Amit and Dan stuck around until the end with 21 and 16 respectively.

David Perkins picked up an early wicket, with Josh taking the catch behind the stumps.

After that... Less said, the better.

Great Oakley knocked the runs off in the 19th over. 😬

🏡 2nd XI | WON by 4 wickets! 🎉
Finally, some good news!

Bowden were bowled out for 217, with NBCC chasing it down at 218-6.

Unfortunately, the scorecard wasn't online, so that's about as much as Admin currently knows.

🚗 1st XI | Lost to Biggleswade CC by 9 wickets

Another Sunday, another batting collapse.

Darran Gillions opened and was caught for 3, while Faisal top-scored with 24 from 40 balls.

Brad Ratcliffe and Tyler Miley both contributed ducks, because apparently Saturday's batting performance wasn't enough of a warning.

Captain Chris Wade provided the only wicket, removing Biggleswade's opener LBW for 16.

Biggleswade reached the target in the 8th over.

At least everyone got home early? 🤷‍♂️😂

🏡 2nd XI | WON by 5 wickets! 🎉
Another Sunday win!

Milton Keynes CC Friendly XI posted 132-8, before NBCC chased it down at 133-5 in 25.2 overs.

And once again, the scorecard wasn't online...

So, just like Saturday, the comments are open.

Who scored? Who bowled? Who took the catches? Who did absolutely nothing but still wants their name mentioned?

🚗 1st XI head to Great Oakley CC without Zack Wade, who has apparently found a better offer elsewhere — a BBQ involving a promised 4 lamb chops and 3 steaks. Priorities. 😂

Jamie Abbott returns to the 1s, Simon Pavitt is back from holiday, and Amit steps up from the 2s. Hopefully there's enough meat left for Zack to explain himself on Monday.

🏡 2nd XI welcome Bowden CC to Bradwell Road.
With Captain Alex away, Vice Captain Pri steps up to lead the side alongside Will Smith - who is also our full-season match kit sponsor through 's Garden Care.

Will doesn't just sponsor the kit either - he also looks after our ground, which has been no small task this summer with torrential rain one minute and scorching sunshine the next! Keeping the grass playable has been a challenge, so a massive thank you to Will for everything he does for the club. ❤️💛

As for the cricket... let's hope Pri can keep things growing just as well as Will keeps the square!

🚗 1st XI travel to Biggleswade CC, with Captain Chris leading the motley crew.
Biggleswade are also on a bit of a losing run and sit just above NBCC in the league... so it's all set up for a proper six-pointer. Can the Sunday 1s finally turn the corner? 👀

🏡 2nd XI host Milton Keynes CC Friendly XI at Bradwell Road, with Captain Tim and Vice Captain/Chairman James at the helm.

There's plenty of familiar faces in the squad, including junior stars Evie, Oliver, Lewis and Buddy, all with one eye on this month's Honours Board. No pressure, kids! 😏

🏡 1st XI vs Northampton Saints CC 2nd XI | Lost by 47 runs

The visitors posted a competitive total, but the wickets were shared around nicely by the NBCC attack. Shaggy led the way with 3 wickets, Chris Wade claimed 2, while David Perkins and Zack Wade picked up one apiece.

Special mention to Tommo, who, according to those who know best, bowled his best spell in years. Sometimes the figures don't tell the whole story!

With the bat, Zack Wade got us off to another flying start before feathering one behind for 26. Alan Quelch produced a classy 48 to keep the chase alive, before skipper Josh Hobson (46)* and vice-captain Andy Overton (36) threatened one of those classic late NBCC recoveries.

When Andy departed, the mountain just became a little too steep, but the lads certainly didn't go down without a fight.

🚗 2nd XI vs Horton House CC | Lost by 4 wickets.

At 73-6, things weren't looking particularly cheerful. Step forward Vamsi and Mustafa.

Neither were originally due to play, but together they produced a superb 95-run partnership for the seventh wicket to completely change the innings.

Mustafa wasn't finished there either, adding an unbeaten 50-run stand with Kranthi to drag the total all the way to 224-8.

Proof, if ever it was needed, that this batting line-up always has something left in the tank.

Unfortunately, Horton House's batting proved just as stubborn.

Amit was the standout bowler with 3 wickets, supported by Kranthi (2) and Saikumar (1), but a few too many runs leaked in the field meant the hosts chased the target down with four wickets to spare.

🚗 1st XI vs Queens Park Westfield CC | Lost by 6 wickets.

The Sunday 1s' search for that elusive win continues...

Batting first, Darran Gillions top scored with 22, followed by Will Richardson with 19, while Josh Hobson and Tyler Miley both made 16 before being caught.
Defending 118, there were still some bright moments with the ball.

Umar Aziz produced a tidy spell in a single maiden over with 2 wickets, while also taking the first catch of the innings. Tyler Miley and Ali Ul-Zafar picked up a wicket apiece, but Queens Park reached the target in the 13th over.

Captain Chris Wade summed the afternoon up perfectly:
"Less said the better... but at least we had a laugh."

To be fair, that's village cricket in one sentence. 😄

Not quite the weekend we were hoping for on the results front, but there were still plenty of positives:

✅ Another flying start from Zack.
✅ AQ back amongst the runs.
✅ A brilliant rescue act from Vamsi and Mustafa.
✅ Tommo reminding everyone he's still got it.
✅ And, most importantly... despite three defeats, the clubhouse was still full afterwards.

Because at the end of the day, that's what village cricket is all about.

Captain Josh Hobson leads a familiar-looking side as the 1s return home after a few weeks on the road.

Charlie Maw is still sidelined through injury, but the good news is Zack Wade appears to have caught the cricket bug again. After a century on his return and a double appearance last weekend, we're hoping he's back for the rest of the summer!

Captain Alex and Vice-Captain Pri are boosted by the return of some big hitters, including Tahir Mahboob.

Meanwhile, Joel Onedin and Kranthi Patlolla both have one eye on the August Bowling Honours Board. Expect plenty of wickets... and absolutely no mention of the leaderboard in the post-match chat. 😉

A proud weekend for our match ball sponsor, as Chappo's son, Tyler Miley, steps up from captaining the Sunday 2nd XI to join the 1st XI squad.
Queens Park picked up a win last weekend, but their recent form has been mixed. Can the Sunday 1s finally get that long-awaited win? We certainly hope so!

A new month, another four games, and hopefully another weekend full of stories... preferably involving more wins than complaints about dropped catches! 😅

July has certainly kept us on our toes...

Scorching sunshine ☀️, the odd collapse 🤦‍♂️, a few dropped catches (we're getting there...), some brilliant team wins, and enough stories to keep the clubhouse laughing all month long.

But amongst all the chaos, there have been some standout individual performances!

🚗 1st XI vs Wellingborough Indians CC | Lost by 2 wickets

This one really could have gone either way.

Batting first, the lads put together a proper team performance with everyone contributing... and, perhaps more importantly, no ducks! (Frame that scorecard.)
Faisal Ahmed led the way with a classy 76 (13 fours), Darren continued his excellent form with 55, while Prakash blasted 52 from just 50 balls.

Poor Zack Wade, though. After last week's 138, he could only manage 9, and was overheard on the Frogbox reflecting on the cruel highs and lows of cricket. We feel your pain, Zack... sort of. 😂

With the ball, Chris Wade picked up 3, Shaggy and Dan Thompson claimed two each, with Andy Overton adding another, but Wellingborough just edged home with four balls to spare.

A close one... and probably one we'd all like another crack at.

🏡 2nd XI vs Haddon CC | Lost by 34 runs

The 2s' winning streak finally came to an end, but not without a fight.

Kranthi starred with 3 wickets, Ajay Mittapelly grabbed two, while Amit, Hamdi and Pri all chipped in.

Unfortunately, a few too many runs leaked in the field, leaving us with a bigger chase than we'd have liked.

With the bat, Shri was magnificent with 93, cruelly missing out on a deserved century. Ajay fell one run short of fifty with a blistering 49, while Pri added 34.

On another day, with a couple more stops in the field, this one could easily have gone the other way.

🚗 1st XI vs Stony Stratford CC | Lost

Local bragging rights stay with Stony this time... but not without a few memorable moments.

Drafted in at the eleventh hour, Zack Wade decided if runs weren't happening this weekend, wickets would do instead. He finished with 2 early wickets, before swapping bowling boots for wicketkeeping gloves and adding two stumpings, including removing the opener on 85.

Weekend wicket tallies kept growing too, with Shaggy and Chris Wade both striking again, while Simon Pavitt, Andy Overton and Riz Alam all claimed two wickets apiece. Simon also held onto two excellent catches, while both he and Riz added caught-and-bowled dismissals.

The fielding wasn't short of entertainment either...

Shaggy very nearly managed to knock himself out throwing the ball in, while Josh Day, fresh from a Saturday wedding, bravely took one to the knee. Village cricket at its finest.

After lunch, hopes were high for Riz and Josh Hobson to put on a match-winning partnership after their reunion cuddle...

Sadly, the fairy tale lasted considerably less time than the hug.

With the bat, Josh Hobson and Simon Pavitt top-scored with an identical 21, both striking three fours... Josh from 31 balls, Simon from 30. Spooky. 👻

The early finish did at least allow the lads to get back to Bradwell Road to cheer on the Sunday 2s.

And for everyone wondering after Friday's teamsheet post... Josh has confirmed the sore body part this week wasn't his back or shoulder.

🏡 Sunday 2nd XI vs Rushden & Higham Town CC | Lost

The result wasn't the one we wanted, but there were still plenty of positives.

Take a bow, Evie Quelch.

In only her fourth game of cricket, Evie picked up an incredible 4 wickets, including bowling and catching-and-bowling both openers before they'd reached 20. Not bad for someone who's only just getting started!

Ryan Lambert added two wickets, while Dan, Buddy and Connor Davidson all chipped in, with Connor's coming courtesy of another smart Fred Godfrey stumping.

We'll politely draw a veil over the rest of the fielding...

With the bat, Ryan top scored with 21, while Buddy once again showed remarkable patience for a junior, making 16 from 47 balls.

Coincidentally, both Sunday sides had a top score of 21. We don't know if that's impressive or mildly concerning.

The only duck of the day belonged to Captain Tim Payne, who took it in good spirits. After all, he finished the day with more catches (1) than runs... and sometimes that's village cricket in a nutshell. 😄

One win would've been nice... but we did manage:
✅ No Saturday ducks.
✅ Another near-century.
✅ Evie's first four-wicket haul.
✅ Plenty of wickets shared around.
✅ Josh discovering a brand-new muscle to complain about.

We'll take a breather, regroup, and go again next weekend.
