Coaching sessions for women cyclists are taking place at the Bowl on Saturday February 11th and 18th 12.30 - 13.30. This will be open to anyone but is being run with lots of support from Team MK people (huge thanks)
The coaching will focus on group riding skills and cornering and anyone who wants to test their newly hones skills can enter the women only beginners races at the Bowl held during March on Saturdays (4th, 11th, 18th and 25th)
These races are 20 minutes long and start at 13.10. They will cost just £5 to enter and there will be no other cyclists or races on the circuit at the time so a great chance to test your skills.
I look forward to seeing loads of women there - please help make this initiative a success.

The Corley Cycles/Abbeygate Developments Summer Series will soon be live on the British Cycling website. But we need your help and opinion on the following:

The Women's event is currently set to E/1/2/3/4, making it an open event for women of all categories. Would you be more inclined to race if the event was restricted to categories 2/3/4?

Your answers will determine which route we'll be heading down this year, so please let us know!

We are very pleased to announce that 2022 will see the return of Thursday evening crit racing at the Milton Keynes Bowl sponsored by Corley Cycles and Abbeygate Development. Team Milton Keynes under the Milton Keynes Cycle Association umbrella will be the main organisers for the events starting on 2nd June 2022 and running for thirteen weeks until 25th August 2022.

For 2022 we will use a chip timing system to aid finish placing – more details of the system being used will be explained on the British Cycling event entry. With using the chip timing system, we hope to be able to publish full results quickly and accurately, but it will be important for riders to enter online before the event. We will allow entries on the day subject to space and logistics on the night.

As in previous years participating MKCA affiliated clubs will be asked to assist with providing course marshals for some events through the summer series. Marshal vouchers for free event entry will be issued to clubs that provide marshals. It will only be possible to use the extended course if marshals are available. Please e-mail Sarah Hooper ([email protected]) with the contact details of your club representative to help fill out the marshalling calendar.

Prizes and series trophies for the King and Queen of the Bowl will be set and awarded by the event sponsors Corley Cycles and Abbeygate Developments. The races will run as they have done before with two events (Men’s 4ths and Women’s) concurrently starting at 1800 with two further races (3/4ths and E123s at 1900.

We very much hope that these events can support the region returning to a more normal series of evening criterium events and encourage local participation in races. To register your club with the event organisers can you please email [email protected] with your club name, your main contact.

Many thanks and we hope to see you at the MK Bowl!

Returning to Cycle Racing at the Milton Keynes National Bowl

As you may have seen in the recent public announcement from British Cycling they were HOPEFUL that cycle racing may be able to resume after August 1st.

"The disciplines and formats we believe could make the earliest return include BMX, cycle speedway, track, circuit racing, road time trials, cyclo-cross, and cross-country and gravity mountain biking."

However, after discussions with the board members of the MKCA as well as the Central Regional Events Officer and several other staff at British Cycling, circuit racing will not resume on this date. Until such a time that there are clear guidelines on racing including but not limited to social distancing and hygiene measures, insurance and liability, travel restrictions, and event personnel we will not allow Cycle Sport to return to the Milton Keynes National Bowl.

We are still very keen to put on cycle races but have to do so safely and under the correct insurance cover from British Cycling. We remain hopeful that we can salvage some form of race calendar later in the year.

Should there be updated guidance regarding the safe return of bunch racing we will endeavour to do our best to meet the needs of all our members, individuals, and clubs.

Stay safe.

Given yesterday's updated guidelines from the UK Government and today's updated stance on the subject of the Coronavirus/COVID19 situation from the sport's governing body, British Cycling, it is with sincere regret that the Milton Keynes Cycling Association will suspend all cycling activity within the Milton Keynes National Bowl initially up until April 30th.

This includes but is not limited to:

British Cycling governed races
British Masters Cycle Races (BMCR)
Youth races
Cycle training

The health and safety of all our members, friends and families are at the forefront of our minds and we will take further advice and guidance from British Cycling as we proceed through this difficult time.
