Firstly, congratulations to Jamie Boyce for winning the Premier 1000 Championship and to Brandon Petty for securing 3rd place, and to all competitors across the class.
Thursday Track Day: A good day all round. Managed a 1:34.4 in the last session, only 0.5 secs off my PB on the GP circuit.
Friday Track Day: A very wet first session, but this was expected. In fact the forecast was for rain all day but this was not the case! On top of the weather changing from torrential downpours to clear skies and a drying track, multiple wheel changes and suspension alterations, the track was then contaminated with oil along the entire length of the lap, and on the racing line too. Oil on a wet track…..not good. We lost most of the morning due to the clean up. Friday was pretty much written off.
Saturday Qualifying: Bike was set up for a dry qually session. 15mins before we were due to head out, the heavens opened and soaked the place. After a frantic wheels and bike set up change, we were ready. I qualified 10th overall and 4th in class. Good enough.
Saturday Race: Leading up to my race, there were red flags galore and plenty of them around the infamous Craner Curve. This led to delay after delay. Due to a work commitment that I couldn’t get out of, the sketchy conditions and a fairly safe 2nd place in the championship, I decided to not race. It was a tough call, but the right one given the circumstances.
A bit of a disappointing end to what has been a great racing season overall, but on the plus side, I’ve finished the championship in 2nd place after only competing in 5 out of 8 rounds, and with a bike, and more importantly a body in one piece! This year I’ve had 8 wins, 4 seconds and 3 thirds, gone quicker everywhere I’ve raced at and improved my race craft. So lots of positives to take away from the season.
I now look forward to some early winter training at Portimao in a couple weeks time 😎.
Special thanks to:
Team Abel as always for their support throughout the weekend, Ahelby for the photos and to family and friends for their continued support.
Last but not least, a huge thanks to Tasha D for giving up her weekend to come racing.
2027….not sure what the plans are yet. I’ll be racing for sure, just not 100% where or when.
