Shotokan Karate | Self protection | Confidence | Fitness | Martial arts @Satori-do Shotokan Karate, Morecambe We have 2 qualified first aiders.

Satori-Do Shotokan Karate Academy teaches students of all ages from 5+ according to their ability, as everyone learns at different speeds. We train every Tuesday and Thursday from 7-8:30pm in the church hall at St Martins on Westgate, Morecambe, LA4 4UZ (Near the William Mitchell pub). Some students take to karate straight away and progress well, others don't and take quite a while to get the idea

A quieter grading this time around due to holidays and injuries. But those who where there, nailed it!

We have a couple of gradings to revisit due to nerves and have no doubts they will be more than ready to smash it in a weeks time 👊

As always, we are extremely proud of everyone who graded. We had tears and a few knocks (mainly to the instructors 😆), but resilience is something that stood out today, and when obstacles are overcome it makes us even prouder.

Enjoy the new belts guys, thoroughly deserved 👏 🙌 🥋

And here they are, our newest black belt additions to the club. They couldn't have pushed any harder than they did, it amazes me they are still standing 😆

A huge, huge congratulations to all 3, you have done yourselves and the club proud and we can't wait for you to return to the club wearing your black belts 🙇‍♂️

There was literally blood, sweat and tears 😢 All worth it now though 😁

🥋 Here we go, the biggest grading of their lives, for the next 4hrs the guys will be putting everything they have into delivering the best they have. To reach this level for our club takes no less than 💯% commitment and dedication. A lot get close but some don't make it.

It is not an easy grading, it isn't something that can be brushed over and just deliver on the day, and you will not be put forward for it if we didn't think you are ready 🤝

A snippet of what's involved:

➡️Solo combinations
➡️Large padwork
➡️Small padwork
➡️Kumite
➡️Kata
➡️Grappling (striking, takedowns included)
➡️Takedowns from various scenarios
➡️Escapes
➡️Holds and restraints
➡️Groundwork (multiple scenarios)

For some, reaching black belt status is the end goal, here we say it's only the beginning 🙇‍♂️

🍀 Please take the time to wish Mark, James & Kieran the good luck they need 😆 They deserve to be here and we hope they absolutely smashed it 👊

And yep, ice packs and first aid kit is ready to go ⛑️

A really good class last night for main. We worked on the principle of 'Muchimi' a foundational concept found in Okinawan Karate, meaning 'heavy hands' or 'sticky'.

It's something we've looked at before but in a slightly different way, but we worked on this a little more in depth last night. The aim is to keep the connection between you and your partner and feeling where your partner is and deflecting their attacks away.

The objective here was for me, was to try and make contact with his shoulders, whilst he closed his eyes to highten his senses with just the arm connection. He was fantastic at this 👏 🥋

Thanks to Okinawan Karate Jutsu Cairns for their insight into this 🙇
