Morley Knights 46 – 6 Methley Warriors
The U14s were back in action against Methley Warriors and produced an excellent all-round performance, combining strong defence, powerful forward running and some fantastic attacking rugby.
Morley started brightly, with Austin crossing in the corner after a well-worked scrum to open the scoring.
The Knights then produced some excellent defensive work, limiting Methley’s metres and forcing them backwards. Strong carries from the Morley forwards put the team firmly on the front foot, and after back-to-back sets, Brish powered over the line to score Morley’s second try.
The forwards continued to make big metres deep into the Methley half. Harvey then put in a great kick towards the corner, where Oscar collected the ball and showed great awareness to offload to Samuel, who finished the move for another Morley try.
An error gifted Methley possession in Morley’s half, and the Warriors took advantage, kicking into the in-goal area to score and converting under the posts.
Morley responded immediately. A Methley knock-on gave the Knights a scrum 40 metres out, and Samuel broke from the back of the scrum, showing great pace to score under the sticks. Austin added the conversion.
After a scrappy opening to the second half, Morley soon found their rhythm again. Leo powered over from close range to extend the lead, with Harvey adding the conversion.
Some fast, front-foot rugby then saw Jack scoot from ho**er before producing a great offload to Samuel, who crossed under the posts for another try.
Morley continued to apply the pressure, with some excellent hands from Harvey near the line setting Samuel over for yet another score.
Austin then put Morley on the front foot once again with a fantastic jinking run, making around 50 metres. Samuel followed with a powerful break through the Methley defence before putting Frankie over for a well-deserved try. Harvey converted.
There was still time for one more piece of attacking brilliance. Quick thinking from Harvey, who kicked on the second tackle, caught Methley off guard. Frankie chased the ball down brilliantly to score his second try of the game, with Harvey converting from out wide to add the final two points.
