Match Report

Motherwell 2 Jets W1 1

MVI invited Jets W1 for a friendly match at Ravenscraig to test themselves against the best team in Scotland. Jets brought a full strength squad to Motherwell with MVI also at full strength with only Captain Jillian Barton missing. MVI won the toss and served to start the match. MVI debutant Tya Keys started at Libero.

First set was point for point to 12-12 with power hitting and blocking from both teams. The pick ups all over the court from Jets and MVI was a joy to watch in what was an incredible start to the game with unbelievable rallies. Tya and Patrycja were picking up everything. Power hitting from Magda and smart middle play from Maria kept the score point for point. With both teams calling a time out the scores were then poised at 16-15 in favour of Jets. The atmosphere on court from the experienced Jets team was high with MVI a little flat saw Jets go into a 22-18 lead with Jets taking the first set 25-18

Second set MVI came out strong with renewed energy after a team talk from Coach Max Georges. MVI raced into a 12-7 lead and Jets called a time out as MVI were dominant all over the court. Patrycja found her rhythm and was setting superbly well for Monika, Nicole and Kate who were hitting strong with Magda at outside killing it and she also had a monster block. Strong serving and again smart play from Maria hitting the corners put Jets under pressure. MVI dominated this set and won the set 25-19.

Third set Coach Georges made a change and moved Tya into Set with Patrycja playing Libero. The transition of this change was seamless with both players playing incredible in new positions. Again MVI started strong and momentum was with MVI throughout this set racing into an 15-10 lead. Although Jets being the dominant force that they are came roaring back to put MVI under pressure. Power hitting at its best from all front court. MVI were 22-16
ahead and Jets really showed their class and came back to 23-20 with MVI taking the set 25-21 to take an incredible 2-1 lead.

Fourth Set started with only 15mins left and Jets started strong going 5-0 up. MVI then got it back to 6-3 before Jets stormed ahead 14-8 with MVI making silly mistakes to allow Jets to dominate. Time ran out sadly with Jets 16-10 ahead in the set.

An incredible game from both teams and we thank Kenny and his team Jets Volleyball Club for travelling through for this game. However all the plaudits go to our MVI Women who have not trained together and have only played one competitive game together before today. Fantastic and proud moment for our club to put in such a performance against a vastly experienced and unbeaten Jets team. Well done everyone
