What a night, Rivals Gym hosted knockout the stigma 8 last night in aid of Chris’s House and the show was spectacular from start to finish. We had 4 fighters on and came away with 3 wins🙌
First up we had Elijah Cass stepping in the ring for the second time and picking up his first win with an excellent display of kickboxing. He listened to the corner perfectly chopping away with heavy low kicks and winning a unanimous decision. Respect to Jacob his opponent from Rivals Gym Netherburn for making a great fight🔥
Next up we had Andrew Pheely in a rematch against a tough lad from Perth. A slow start losing the first round but he came back in the second with a beautiful combo dropping his opponent with a knee to the body and then digging deep to win the final round taking the unanimous decision. Avenging the previous loss in another great fight🙌
Thanks to Mackay from Partizan Gymnasium for taking the rematch and making the travel to our show respect 🤝
Euan Pheely was our first adult fight of the night against another very tough opponent from clan combat. 3 very tough and gruelling rounds saw the decision go to the opponent. Euan fought his heart out the full time landing big shots throughout but struggled to find space to work. Big improvement from last time out and on to the next🙏
Last up in the main event we had John Doc going for his first semi-pro title. He put on a brilliant performance and executed the game plan to perfection getting the stoppage in round 3. Composed throughout and dominated the fight with some beautifully placed calf kicks, couldn’t be prouder of the wee man only 17 and now 2-0 as a semi-pro👊🏻
Massive respect to Dylan for taking the fight, and wishing him all the best🙏
Coaches are very proud of all the boys who all fought and gave us 100% to the very end. Thanks to Aiden Sneddon for helping in all the corners.
And last big thanks to everyone who came to support or watched on the live stream. Without yous these nights wouldn’t be what they are, and we had a great turnout for all the lads.
Onto the next show in December 👀

“YOU CAN PLAY FOOTBALL… BUT YOU’LL NEVER LEARN HOW TO DEFEND YOURSELF BY KICKING A BALL.” ⚽🥊
That’s something martial arts teaches you very quickly.
Yes, you’ll learn how to punch, kick and defend yourself.
But you’ll also learn how to deal with nerves.
How to walk into a room where you don’t know anyone.
How to become more confident.
How to handle challenges.
And how to keep going when something feels uncomfortable.
For a lot of children, even walking through the doors for that very first class is a massive step.
New place.
New people.
Everyone else looks like they know what they’re doing.
That can be scary.
But confidence comes from doing it anyway.
And over time, the lessons they learn on the mats start carrying into school, friendships and everyday life.
So if your child is nervous about starting…
Just let them try it.
Sometimes walking through the door is the hardest part. ❤️🥊

What makes a good coach? Adaptability. 🥊
Every child who walks through that door is different.
Different personality.
Different confidence level.
Different way of learning.
Different reason for being there.
A good coach doesn’t expect every student to adapt to them…
The coach adapts to the student.
Whether it’s a nervous child, a complete beginner, an adult stepping onto the mats for the first time, or someone getting ready to fight, you need to know how to connect with the person in front of you.
And when it comes to fighting, adaptability matters even more.
Things don’t always go to plan.
You need to be able to read what’s happening, make adjustments and know what to do, when to do it.
That’s coaching. 👊
You don’t coach everyone the same. You coach the person in front of you.

🥊 INTRODUCING OUR FUTURE CHAMPIONS 🏆
Airah Subash
At Rivals, we’ve always believed that martial arts is more than simply turning up to class each week!
We’ve created a pathway & continuing to develop it to the best of our ability!
That’s why we created The Future Champions Programme!! Which is designed to bridge the gap between student and eventually progressing onto our Leadership Pathway 💪🏻
Future Champions will begin to take the next step in their Rivals journey.
They’ll:
✅ Train more regularly and double up on sessions
✅ Develop their skills at a faster rate
✅ Build confidence, discipline and consistency
✅ Become stronger role models within their classes
✅ Start preparing for the next stage of their journey at Rivals
It gives our students something to work towards, belong to and be proud of.
And importantly, Future Champions is invitation only.
Students are selected by our coaching team based on their attitude, effort, attendance and potential!
For parents, we want you to be able to see the pathway your child can take with us:
