The 18th looked lovely to shame i was only taking photos not playing ,
In 2019, we offered a Micro Fund grant of £5,000 to @Mountain Ash Golf Club in Cefnpennar

In March 2018, they were recognised as Junior Golf Club of the Year 2017 by Golf Wales. In March 2016 the club had 1 junior member and embarked on an initiative to increase junior members, and worked with Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council Sports Department, Cynon Valley schools, Wales Golf and the Sports Wales. At the time of application the club had 61 members aged 4-17 years. However they lacked space for practice facilities. They identified an within the confines of the course and secured match funding of £23,000 from Sport Wales

The application to Pen y Cymoedd was successful because: they had match funding / plan was clearly thought out and would have direct impact for junior membership as well as wider membership. This facility would allow junior members to continue to improve and be able to practice in safety without being restricted to a specific time for practice sessions.

Around 450 trees were removed to create the practice area but as part of plan they planted 600 trees to replace those lost. They were donated by Woodland Trust Cymru and Groundwork. They engaged with local schools to help with planting the saplings. The practice area is fully operational now and was opened following initial lockdown. The junior section are using it for their Saturday coaching sessions as planned.
A number of our members regularly use the practice area

Membership has increased by 125 people since 15 months ago and junior membership levels maintained. As they emerge fully from lockdown, they are excited to allow all members, old and new back to site playing sport in a beautiful, well-resourced environment.
Today at Mountain Ash Golf Club ❤️.

Looking forward to visiting you soon 👍 ⛳️ 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

The course around 1985 hardly any trees the way i liked it ,

Today we recieved these photos from the 1984 Club Championship Final played between Lorne Jones and Paul Eggleton, two lifelong friends who grew up together in Cefnpennar. 🏌‍♂️🏌‍♂️

The eventual winner was Paul Eggleton. Take a look at the photos and see how much things have changed, hopefully this will bring back some memories too for those who were there.⛳

Today we look back at the old "burning tip" on the side of the course. The course can be seen in the distance, this was during the reclamation work in the 80s. Certainly looks very different today now that nature has worked it's magic.⛳🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🌳

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our eldest member, Donald Jones, aged 91. Don, a member for 36 years joining us in 1985 led a very active life and played golf regularly with friends and competitively with the senior section, often shooting scores lower than his age. Don was a kind charachter and will be missed by all who knew him. Our flags currently stand at half mast in respect of a great member that we have lost.

The funeral will take place on Friday 14th January 12:20 at St. Winifreds Church Penrhiwceiber followed by the committal at Glyn Taff Crematorium at 13:30.
Sadly due to corvid regulations they are restricted on numbers and at both venues there is only outside standing available.

The wake will take place at Abercynon RFC. Please contact a member of the family if you intend to go along so that they can comply with the relevant risk assessments at the venue.

Mobile Score Input just got a whole lot better!

Mobile Score Input will be changing soon! Watch the video below to keep up to date!⛳🏌️‍♂️

This weekend saw the return of the Alec Cameron Cup at the Club. This cup was historically played between us and Whitehall Golf Club but dwindled over the years. Alec Cameron was a dual member with both clubs which was how the competition started.

The last year brought many golf clubs closer together, especially with the local lockdown when members were not able to play their home club if they didn't live in that county borough due to travel restrictions.

We linked up with many clubs in this time including Whitehall and we agreed that it was time that clubs started to help each other out as much as possible, a perfect and simple way to do this was to bring back the Alec Cameron Cup.

Whitehall kindly offered us to host the first one as a thank you for the hospitality given to their members at that time, we will return the favour next year as they proudly celebrate their centenery year.

We played for the cup on Saturday and everyone had a brilliant day, many of our members formed friendships and links which was the most important part of the event and as a bonus they drank a shed full of beer!

We are looking forward to returning the favour next year and growing the links we have made over the last weekend!

Pictured below is Gareth Evans, Mountain Ash team captain, speaking after just being presented with the Alec Cameron Cup from Whitehall team captain - Paul Nicholls.
