Everyone at MACC would like to send their deepest condolences to our neighbours down the road at Abercynon Cricket Club on the news of the sad passing of life member Ian Moses.

A great competitor on the field and a true gentleman off it.

Our thoughts are with Ian’s family at this difficult time.

RIP Moses you will be sorley missed πŸ’›πŸ–€

Sad times bring better times. Today was a sad day for the club as we mourned the passing of a great friend and teammate Phil Jenkins. But also good times as old friends got together and celebrated the times we shared. This club brings together people who form friendships that last for life. Take hold of what we have, enjoy our time together, be there for each other and above all keep loving our sport. RIP Phil x

Photos from Mountain Ash Cricket Club's post 19/06/2021

Everyone at Mountain Ash Cricket Club were devastated to hear of the passing of Phil Jenkins after his long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Phil played for the club from his teenage years while at Mountain Ash Grammar School and latterly commuting regularly to matches from Aston University where he continues his studies.

He became an integral part of the sports scene in Mountain Ash with his all round ability in basketball, cricket and rugby, both on and off the field of play. During his tenure as Chairman of the β€˜Old Firm’, Phil was the driving force of the regeneration of the Deep Dyffryn Colliery site in the town, which was eventually transformed from a derelict site, to on of the finest rugby arenas in South Wales.

An accomplished wicketkeeper/batsman, Phil became the backbone of the club that enjoyed great success, particularly in the old Glamorgan Alliance League which the club won on numerous occasions. He was a well known and popular figure on the local cricket scene, captaining MACC on several occasions, and touring regularly with the Mosquito’s Cricket Club and the Wales Veterans.

Phil’s approach to the game was quite simple, play hard, play fair, and enjoy the social opportunities that the sport offered… which he did to the max! You could always find the Mount side on the way home from an away fixture making a slight detour up a mountain or two in search of some obscure hostelry hidden away in a remote location that provides real ale, courtesy of Phil’s geographical skills and his trusty Good Beer Guide!!

All our thoughts at the club go out to Norma, Kate, Rhys and the family at this very sad time.

The town has lost one of its great ambassadors, but you will always be remembered by your many, many friends at Mountain Ash Cricket Club, and indeed, the wider sporting community.

Rest In Peace Phil, our team mate, and friend x

A minutes silence was held in memory of Phil during our first team game against Usk and our second team game against Sully Spartans. Thanks to both teams for respecting the occasion.

2 big games today the 1st XI take on Brecon @ the resplendent Caedrwnant, Plenty of refreshments available throughout the day to keep our supporters hydrated 🌞😁🍺 and the ever improving 2nd XI take the short trip down the road to Llantwit Fardre. All the best to both teams πŸ‘πŸ»

This Saturday the 1st XI welcomed Croeseyceiliog CC to the Caedrawnant.

CCC won the toss and elected to bat on a firm but green track.
The visitors struggled to get off the mark in the early stages with the home teams exceptional display in the field.
The break through eventually came in the 5th over with J.Williams dismissing opener S.Mawby for 0.
This was followed up by an excellent spell on f bowling from W.Pearson eventually ending with figures of
The wickets continued to fall through the middle order. G.Griggs and G.Cooper with 2 outstanding catches in the covers.
MACC looked to be in control with the visitors on 88/7 at the 33rd over but it was the number 8 batsmen J.Evans who dug in deep and rallied his team in the later stages to finish their innings on 153/9. Evans finishing up on 50*

After tea it was the home teams turn to bat.
Opening duo N.Manley and O.Roberts started strongly and put the visitors on the back foot early on.
It was Roberts 1st to be dismissed and the run rate began to slow down with consecutive maidens from the CCC spinners M.White and J.P.Prosser but the home team showed how they thrive under pressure eventually reaching the 154 target in the 41st over.
N.Manley (33) and V.Bailey (34) with the pick of the runs.

This victory sees the 1st XI make it 3/3 as they welcome Brecon CC to the Caedrawnant this coming weekend.

The 2nd XI traveled to Cardiff CC and fell just short of the 210 runs needed. Some positive displays all round with bat and ball G.Browett (48) and A.Davies (30) with the bat and M.Jennings (3-36) with the ball

On Saturday May 22nd the first XI made the trip over the Gwent Valley to Abergavenny CC for their 2nd game of the 2021 campaign.

With the outfield still recovering from the previous nights rainfall the start was delayed and overs reduced to 32.

MACC won the toss and elected to bowl with play eventually getting under way at 2:30pm.

ACC started strongly with openers Powell and Holmes seeing off the first 16 overs however it was the old phrase β€˜drinks brings wickets’ that came into play as MACC finally got the breakthrough in the 17th over after the drinks break.
The wickets continued to fall with ACC eventually finishing up on 123/9.
B.G.Brown the pick of the bowlers with 3-17 off 6 overs.

With the weather improving and the wicket drying out MACC got off to a good start with the bat.
Openers B.G.Brown and O.Roberts racked up the runs with B.G.Brown scoring 50 before getting dismissed with a fine edge to the ACC wicket keeper.

MACC eventually reached the required total with 8 overs to spare.
Another good performance from Mountain Ash makes it 2 wins from 2.

We would like to thank the Abergavenny ground staff who made every effort to prepare the wicket to ensure the game was played.

No game for the 2nd XI this week due to the bad weather.

The 1st XI hosted Llanharth CC at the Caedrawnant on Saturday 1/5/21 in their opening game of the 2021 campaign.

conditions were gloomy and rather damp forcing the start to be delayed until the showers held off. with play eventually given the green light to start the home team won the toss and elected to bowl first.

MACC instantly got the break through with opening bowler J.Williams taking 3 wickets in the first over of the match. eventually finishing with figures of 4 for 16 in an impressive opening spell.

Llanarth finishing all out for 89.

After the break it was a frustrating start for MACC with the top order being dismissed in quick succession.

But with the pressure building late on and with 7 wickets down it was G.Griggs (23), P.Fawbert (32*) and D.Conway (10*) who showed the grit and determination that was needed to dig in and get the home team over the line.

A great opening day win for MACC!

In the reverse fixture the 2nd XI led by newly appointed skipper G.Browett fell just short of the 160 target required against a solid Llanharth outfit.
However there were some postive displays all round with bat and ball none the less with the team showing they can be real contenders this up coming season.

MACC πŸ–€πŸ’›

6AM, the covers are off and the Caedrawnant is coated with a thick cover of frost.
