We’re inviting girls aged 8–16, of ALL abilities to come along and give rugby a go. Whether you’re completely new to rugby or already love the game — you are welcome! 🏉

We’re also looking for volunteers and coaches to help us make this happen. If you’re interested in getting involved, please get in touch. 💙🩷❤️

We’re incredibly proud to be bringing girls’ rugby back to the Cynon Valley with the launch of the Cynon Valley Forgers Girls’ Rugby Hub, based at Abercynon RFC.

The Forgers are all about creating opportunities for girls from across the Cynon Valley to get involved in rugby, build confidence, make new friends and be part of something special.

Our name comes from our Valley and its proud industrial heritage a place where things were built, shaped and forged.

That history is part of who we are.

We’re also proud to be working alongside the Iron Maidens in Merthyr, who are mentoring and supporting us as we build something special for girls’ rugby in the Cynon Valley.

📆We’ll shortly be confirming training times so keep an eye on our pages for all the details.

Girls’ Rugby Is Back in the Cynon Valley!

The Cynon Valley Forgers Girls’ Rugby Hub launches this September, bringing girls’ rugby
firmly back to the Cynon Valley.

Hosted at Abercynon RFC, the Forgers will provide girls aged up to 18 with the opportunity
to continue playing, developing and enjoying rugby locally, while creating a pathway
through their teenage years and towards senior rugby.

The Forgers will provide local opportunities for girls to stay involved in rugby as they get
older, creating a supportive environment where they can develop their skills, make friends,
build confidence and enjoy being part of rugby within their local community.
Working Together

A key part of the Forgers will be our affiliation with the Merthyr Iron Maidens🟢🟡

We are delighted to be working alongside an established girls’ rugby hub and to be able to draw on their experience, knowledge and support as we develop the Forgers.

Training will begin in September at Abercynon RFC, with open days planned over the
coming weeks. These sessions will give girls and their families the chance to come along, meet the
team, have a go and find out more about what the Forgers are all about.🩵🩷❤️

We would also like to thank Tom from the WRU for his support to the Mini and Junior section throughout the process.👌

provide more local opportunities for girls to enjoy and develop in the sport. A lot of work
has gone on behind the scenes to get the Forgers to this point, and it’s important that we
recognise everyone who has given their time and effort to make it happen.”⚫🔴

“It’s been a hard slog to get this over the line, and i'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone at the MJC for their hard work, support and dedication in making this happen. We can’t wait to see girls’ rugby back in the Cynon Valley and to give local girls the opportunity to play, develop and enjoy the game. Now the real work starts, and we cannot wait to get started and build something really special for the girls and the valley.”⚫🔴

Supporting Ynysybwl Ynysybwl RFC Mini's and Juniors

We are really sad to hear that Ynysybwl Minis & Juniors has wound down and will no longer be fielding teams.

Lots of us know Rhian Kingsbury and the team personally, and we know just how much hard work, commitment and dedication has gone into getting the club off the ground. We hope you can take some real satisfaction in knowing that you got up, gave it a go and created an opportunity for the children of the village to play rugby. That in itself is something to be proud of. ❤️

As a neighbouring club that prides itself on making rugby accessible to all children, we would like to reach out and warmly welcome any players who want to continue playing the game. 🏉

Our door is always open, and we would be more than happy to welcome the children and families of Ynysybwl into our rugby family.

Sometimes keeping rugby alive isn't about how long a club lasts, but about the difference you make while you're there. And you have made a difference.

Lauren has been part of our club family for the past season, with her son Bobby proudly playing for our U7s.

Lauren wanted to get involved with the club for a very special reason — her dad previously played for the club, and with Bobby now loving his rugby, the club has become an important part of their family too

Lauren brings a fantastic mix of social media skills, a strong parent voice and a real passion for making a difference.

She is keen to work alongside the committee, our families and volunteers to help make our club even more sustainable, connected and successful for the future

WELCOME TO THE COMMITTEE, JP!

JP has been a stalwart of our club for many years, having played his way through the ranks before a rugby accident sadly brought his playing days to an end.

He went on to play a part on the Senior Committee for 12 years, giving his time, experience and passion to the club for that time.

Now, with his daughter Sylvi playing in our Minis & Juniors, JP has decided that his skills, experience and energy belong with the Mini section ❤️👌

He is looking forward to helping us maximise sponsorship opportunities and working with the committee to ensure our club continues to be strong, sustainable and here for future generations. 🏉

JP is incredibly passionate about Rugby for All and is also a huge champion of women in sport and within rugby clubs — something we’re delighted to have represented within our committee. 💪
