I love this photo. Taken this week at our regular weekly dip, in the rain. It reminds me of everything social outdoor swimming is all about: support, friendship, nature, laughter, holding hands, encouragement, determination….. Many of you will have found your own swimming family, swim buddies, adventure friends, and to those who have not I would encourage you to keep looking, try out a few local groups, see who you click with - every group has its own personality and ethos - but in general I’ve found swimmers to be a marvellous bunch of humans 🥰

Star ⭐ Badger 🦡. This week my lovely shiny star is Helen who has a passion for the architecture of bridges and so loves swimming under them 😁. As a member of the guiding movement her camp blanket is of course very impressive!!! 🤩

Helen’s Story: “I have always loved swimming but didn’t love swimming in chlorinated pools so I hadn’t swum for ages when a friend suggested open water swimming. I had my induction in October 2022 at St Andrews Lake in Kent and haven’t looked back! I love trying new venues and lidos and also like the camaraderie of swimming events, which have taken me all over the country and beyond. I have been a Guide and Ranger Leader for over 15 years and that is where I became obsessed with badges! So I was beyond delighted to realise that I could earn badges for swimming! It has encouraged me to push my boundaries with swimming just to earn more badges!”

Despite the weather playing tricks on us this weekend (causing the event to be sadly cancelled) I was lucky enough to still have a wonderful weekend. Many of my lovely badgers came to see me for hugs and a chat and a few who braved the waves for a dook (including us!) still got themselves a Morlich badge.

I’d booked to stay the weekend with friends in a lodge locally so we made the most of it! Loch Morlich is so stunning in every weather so it’s always worth spending time there. This morning we woke up to blue skies and flat calm. There were lots of the event swimmers on the beach today completing their swims, meeting with old friends and new, the Go Swim team organised yoga and hot chocolate on the beach, and it felt relaxed and peaceful.

One of the really lovely things to come out of this weekend was how everyone rallied round each other and the comments for the organising team and their decision were so supportive. Richard and the crew work so hard to put on these fantastic, friendly events safely, but the weather is always an unknown, and this must have been a huge blow to them financially and emotionally. They have my complete support and respect.

Looking forward to next year already!!! 😁💙

Sadly today’s Go Swim Loch Morlich had to be cancelled due to high winds (100% the right decision). However I know a lot of you had a quick dip or splash around in the loch yesterday or today, and some are planning to have a swim tomorrow when the weather looks much kinder, so still qualify for a badge 😁. Some of you also wanted other badges and I had no WiFi so couldn’t take card payments. I wanted to let you know that I still have stocks of all the Go Swim event badges for the past three years, and all my other fun and fabulous badges!!! You can message me to order any of them and I can post them out to you. You can buy any badge for £6 (or three Go Swim event badges for £15) plus p&p. Thank you to everyone who still came to see me today, it was so lovely to see all your gorgeous faces. Helen 🧜🏼‍♀️💙

Same as for the other Go Swim Go Swim events, at Loch Morlich this Saturday my stall is a safe place to hang out if you need moral support, a friendly chat or a comforting hug. Event badges are available too (as well as lots of other fun and fabulous sew on patches) but not compulsory. Look out for the Adventure Shenanigans green tent and big smiles next to the registration tent.
