🏆 "We are incredibly proud to have international superstar RSPCA George as a client at Rookery Equine, using our water treadmill to maintain the elite conditioning and core strength behind his historic success!" 💦🐴

VOTING IS OPEN! Theo & RSPCA George need your VOTE & SHARE! 🏆

Theo and RSPCA George have been shortlisted for the Horse & Hound Awards 2026 Unsung Partnership of the Year, and they need your help to win!

🔗 VOTE HERE: www.horseandhound.co.uk/awards

From an unwanted 3-year-old RSPCA rescue pony and a frightened 8-year-old boy to international champions, their bond is unbreakable:

• 🥇 Dressage Stars: Won 26 championship titles and represented England.

• 🚜 Carriage Driving Pioneers: When Theo outgrew George, he refused to sell him. Instead, they switched to carriage driving, won their first FEI international event, and became the first partnership to represent Great Britain in two different disciplines!

• 🥕 Inspirational Impact: George became the first-ever FEI-winning RSPCA pony, inspiring Theo to rescue two more ponies, Jerry and Elvis, who are now winning too.

This isn’t just about winning rosettes—it's about proving that rescue ponies can achieve extraordinary things when someone believes in them.

⚠️ Voting closes on 16 October!

Please take 30 seconds to support a rescue pony who changed a boy's life, and a boy who refused to leave his best friend behind.

Thank you so much to the lovely Rachel Hough - BAEDT Equine Dental Technician for her visit yesterday.
Quite a surprise when our 8 year old non ridden horse is the one requiring further dental treatment after finding a fractured tooth!!
It just shows that even the retired horses in our care still require regular checkups!

🐴 You Only Get One Chance to Rehab Properly 🐴

When your horse is injured, getting the right diagnosis is just step one. What comes next determines their future in the ring. Rushing or skipping proper rehab can leave your horse in ongoing pain. True recovery takes time, patience, and a targeted plan.

✨ Why Structured Rehab is Vital:
▪️ Restores Functionality: Safely builds back muscle and joint strength.
▪️ Reduces Pain: Eases discomfort while restoring mobility.
▪️ Advanced Healing: Hydrotherapy, laser, and massage speed up tissue repair more effectively than rest alone.

🏆 Real Results at Rookery Equine
We adapt treatments to your horse's unique progress for incredible comebacks:

🔹 Splint Bone Fracture | 3-week stay ➡️ Placed at HOYS weeks later!
🔹 Kissing Spine | 6-week stay ➡️ Back competing in BE100 the next month.
🔹 Osteoarthritis | 3-week stay ➡️ Remained sound and in full work.
🔹 Fractured Pedal Bone | Intensive rehab ➡️ Won an affiliated Showjumping class.

Last weekend Rookery collaborated with John Pass Jewellers Ltd for a Longines watch event at rookeryhallhotelspa.
We organised a meet and greet for all the clients invited to the event with our very own Claire, who was modelling one of Graces winning rugs from last year at the Longines event London.
Our clients enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea with ch*****ne and the afternoon was completed with a lovely Longines goodie bag courtesy of John Pass.

Fit vs. Conditioned: Is your horse actually ready for the job? 🐴👇

Your horse might have great stamina and hack for an hour without breaking a sweat. But fitness and conditioning are not the same thing.
Fitness is aerobic stamina (endurance).Conditioning is preparing specific muscles, tendons, and joints for the exact movements they need to do, like jumping, tight turns, or carrying a rider in two-point.
When a horse is fit enough to push through a workout but not conditioned for it, that is exactly where strain and injuries creep in.
💡 The ultimate conditioning tool at our rehab yard? The water treadmill.
Adding water treadmill sessions to a horse's routine is the safest, smartest way to bridge the gap between basic fitness and true conditioning.
It provides:
Low-impact resistance: Builds specific muscle strength, core stability, and joint flexion without the concussive force of hard ground.
Improved posture: Encourages a correct, rounded frame and active hindquarters.
Targeted conditioning: Delivers a highly specific workout in a fraction of the time, perfectly preparing their body for the physical demands of their discipline.
Stop training longer, and start training smarter.
We help you build a resilient, properly conditioned equine athlete!

🐴 Fascinating new research for anyone managing horses with chronic back pain!
A brand-new study published in the journal Animals (August 2026) has looked into the effects of 448 kHz radiofrequency (RF) therapy on horses suffering from long-term back issues.
The focus? The multifidus muscle, a crucial postural muscle that helps stabilise the spine. In horses with chronic back pain, this muscle often wastes away (atrophies) or becomes uneven.
Here is what the 8-week study found:
✅ Significant muscle growth: After four 40-minute treatments, the multifidus muscle showed a progressive increase in size across all measured areas of the spine.
✅ Real muscle adaptation: Because the muscle grew gradually over 8 weeks rather than just swelling immediately, researchers believe it shows genuine muscle adaptation.
✅ Improved stabilisation: Changes in how the horses moved suggest their spine was becoming better stabilised by the growing muscle.
✅ Safety: No adverse effects were reported, and all horses completed the therapy.
⚠️ Keep in mind, this was a small, preliminary study of 8 Thoroughbred horseball horses without a control group. While it shows great potential for RF therapy as a tool in equine rehab, more extensive studies are needed to see if it translates into long-term pain relief and better athletic performance.
👇 What are your thoughts on radiofrequency therapy for rehab? Have you ever tried it with your horses? Let us know in the comments!

A sarcoid removal in December 2025 left this horse with a wound that no matter what the client did just would not stay knitted together.
A couple of weeks on the Class 4 laser and this horse is now using the treadmill daily and being lunged whilst the scar is staying closed!! 🔦
After 9 long months off work he will soon be going home to his owner and back to being under saddle once more 💥
Another example of how Class 4 laser can help speed up healing times on open wounds.

🔦Benefits on Class 4 laser wound healing🔦

✅Faster tissue repair: Photons stimulate cell growth and reproduction in damaged tissues.
✅Increased cellular energy: Light boosts ATP (adenosine triphosphate) production, which gives cells more fuel to heal.
✅Improved circulation: Blood vessels widen (vasodilation) to bring more oxygen and nutrients straight to the wound site.
✅Less scar tissue: The treatment helps form healthier type-1 collagen and reduces messy fibrous scar tissue.
✅Lower inflammation: It calms the local immune response and reduces swelling around the injury.
✅Infection support: It helps the body manage inflammation and clear out damaged cells in hard-to-heal or minor infected wounds
