🏏 A slightly quieter week of cricket this week, but still plenty to get behind!

After Monday’s brilliant 64-run win for the Women’s Softball 2nd Team against Haslington, attention now turns to the weekend.

Saturday sees both men’s sides in action, with the 1st XI hosting Endon and the 2nd XI travelling to Wedgwood.

Then on Sunday, the Sunday 1st XI welcome Wistaston Village to the club.

Congratulations to our junior coach, Ron Lawson, on being nominated for the ‘unsung hero’ award as part of the ECB Cricket Collective Awards! Ron will attend a ceremony at Old Trafford tomorrow evening.

Since joining Crewe Vagrants Cricket Club in 1984, Ron has dedicated more than four decades to the club, with the last 23 years devoted to inspiring and developing young cricketers. After gaining his coaching qualification in 2003, he became the driving force behind the club’s junior section, helping transform it into what it is today.

Under Ron’s leadership, the club introduced All Stars Cricket and Dynamos, expanded coaching into local schools, and created opportunities for hundreds of children to discover and enjoy the game. His commitment has helped Crewe grow into a thriving community.

Ron estimates that more than 1,000 young people have benefited from the coaching and opportunities he has helped provide over the years. Though he is always the first to credit the support of fellow coaches, volunteers, parents, and club members who have shared the journey alongside him.

What has driven Ron throughout has been simple: a love of cricket and the joy of seeing young players develop, gain confidence, and leave each session smiling.

His advice to anyone thinking about coaching reflects his own approach: “Don’t think about it - just do it.”

This nomination recognises not only Ron’s incredible commitment and countless hours of voluntary service, but also the lasting legacy he has created for generations of cricketers. Congratulations, Ron, on a truly well-deserved honour.

Saturday sees the 1st XI travel to Silverdale, while the 2nd XI host Market Drayton at home.

Sunday rounds off the week with the Sunday 1st XI hosting Stoke Tamil at Crewe Vagrants Cricket Club.
