SUMMER LEAGUE RESULTS!

The summer competition, which ran through June and July, was played largely for fun, but also for a degree of glory and personal satisfaction in beating the odds.

Our final week was the doubles tournament, with a changed format, adjusted handicaps and drawn partners.

Best individual performance was Steve Liguz, who only dropped one set all evening, no surprise then that the best pairing also involved Steve, along with his second partner of the night, James Farmer

A mention should also go to Tom Bill and Katie Hall, who each made their Summer debut on the last night of the tournament; especially Katie, who only came along to support Simon and Luke and was roped in to play.

In contrast to Katie, the player with the best attendance record was her brother Luke, who not only won the tournament but probably spoke less in 8 weeks than Katie in her single appearance.

There were other family appearances, and Lewis Reynolds, whose father Martin was also a player, finished a creditable second. Dave and Issy Morrell also put in strong performances, and Dave was only just pipped to the post in terms of percentage wins amongst the regular players by Steve Liguz, who finished on 72% to Dave’s 63%

Best of the more established players was Danny Sullivan, returning from a long layoff due to injury, who finished fifth in the standings and kept up a 44% win rate against a substantial handicap.

In the penultimate week of our summer competition Luke has retained his top spot, but is less than 50 points above Lewis, with Steve in a respectable third place.

Our final week will be the doubles competition, if we maintain our 14-16 player turnout we should get three rounds of competition in, so there’s everything to play for.

HARD BAT WEEK!

Week 6 of the summer competition brought the hard bat tournament. This is a great leveller, and to compensate all handicaps were halved.

We had 15 competitors for the competition, and there was a lot of laughter (as well as a degree of profanity and head-holding!).

The Hard bat competition is run as both a standalone competition and as part of the main summer event, so there are two sets of results this time around.

Hardbat Standalone was run in the usual way, for round 1. In round 2 the best players from round 1 competed on a top table consisting of Steve, Simon, Patrick, Dave and James to decide the overall winner, while the remaining two tables were randomised. Historically Patrick has done very well in this competition, but the top table this year was packed with talent.

The final results were:

Winner Dave Morrell, who only dropped one game all night, Patrick in second place, level on points with Steve, but with one more win.
Credit has to be given to our less experienced players, who adapted quickly to the new bats and produced some great play.

Only 1 week to go Gary Carr ensconced on the bottom, Lewis and Luke looking unassailable at the top

Best percentage wins of the regular players are Steve Liguz, Mike Adams and Lewis Reynolds, expect a change in handicaps next season, guys, (and for the doubles!)

The first week of Netherseal’s summer competition was played on 7th June, with a decent turnout of 13 players ranging from top division standard to non-league.
We got two rounds of competitive handicapped play in and finished shortly after 9 ‘o’clock.

In all forty games were played, twenty-six resulted in close wins (within 5 points), each game was up to 33 points.
There were many contenders for match of the night, Simon Hall v Gary Carr or Richard Baxter v Dave Morrell, both 33-32 scorelines, were probably the best for spectators.

Mike Adams and Dave Morrell both showed how difficult they will be to beat this year with strong performances that belied their handicaps.
